Ok both quarters are welded in, roof skin is welded in tail panel and trunk are all welded in. I have alittle bit of trunk lid adjustment to do and im moving to patching the floors. There’s only small amount of metal to replace and patch in. In the typical areas where the firewall and floor come together. Im trying to have floor complete this weekend. Then she goes on the rotisserie. Next week the motor will be headed to my brothers house were we’ll put the correct 308 cam in and put it on the run stand for break in. Couple pics for you guys

A month in and it has new quarters, a roof skin, wheel houses and repaired tail panel. This is how you restore cars.
I resent that lol

The work some of you guys do is absolutely incredible. I've often wondered if you guys are body men / restoration pros by trade or if this is just a hobby for you?

I do this as a hobby, i love these cars and all the stories that come with them. Im always willing to help anybody in the olds community with their projects. As far as the paint goes i think i might try to paint this one myself. Im gonna try and learn some more stuff from Joe when he paints my brothers car.

I got all the rot cut out and patched on the floor, painted it in Eastwood rust inhibitor and got everything seam sealed. Motor is going with my brother this weekend. I have a couple odds and ends to tie up then I’ll get it sanded down to bare metal and spray epoxy on it and start the body work. Couple pics for you guys

Which product do you prefer for your seam sealer?

I used a 2 in 1 seam sealer from Sem, i used eastwoods before but i was at the local auto paint store and thought I’d give it a try. Seemed to work good, i put it on with a caulk gun then brushed it out with an acid brush. It did setup pretty fast. What kind do you prefer?

It’s been a hot minute since I posted an update, all the patching and welding is done, all the panels are gapped so next step is to sand down to bare metal and prep for epoxy. My brother has gone through the motor and we ll have it running on the run stand this weekend. I’ll upload a video of that next week. Realistically I could have this car ready for paint by May. Here’s a couple pics

Gaps look fantastic.. great job. I am going to paint mine myself as well. I have an old Pontiac fender I practice on. Hopefully it will turn out presentable.

It’s a AMD 68-72 roof panel and it fit great, i had to trim ab 1/8” on both sides for the drip rail and alittle where the roof and roster panel meet at the back of the drip rail. I have 4 sets of post doors so i end up using the best one i had for the passenger side but I didn’t realize all 4 passenger doors i had where all different sizes. The one I used had less body work to do on it but it was a heavy 1/8 longer. The bottom of the door stuck out past the the front of the rocker panel. I ended up shaving the front edge to make it line up.

Ok half the car is sanded down and my brother sent the balancer out to the Damper Doctor in California to get restored and we got that back. Tomorrow the motor will be broke in on the run stand, I should be able to get a video posted on Saturday. Here’s a pic of the car and the before and after pics of the balancer

I probably shouldn’t have turned my phone sideways im still trying to figure the video thing out. As far as the motor it had good oil pressure at 50lbs and never got over 170 degrees. My brother James got everything set and ready to rock I showed up for the easy stuff

FYI, you have to build out the run stand to your liking. We added a Cold Case radiator, electric fan kit, switch panel and mechanical gauges.
