1965 442 Convertible

This will inevitably be a long project, but I want to start logging what I've dome so far.

I picked this up the weekend of the OCA Nats about 20 miles from the show and dragged it along on Saturday.
The car is a shell, but in very good condition metal wise.
It does need new floors and trunk but the quarters, fenders, rockers look amazing. And today after stripping out the cracked windshield, I found the window channels look great too.
Just some picts to get started.

So, it was missing the door glass which, I immediately remedied with HT glass only to find out it was wrong.
So In went correct convertible glass.
Next was replacing the trunk lid (original had a random hole on the rear face). Easily fixed with 4 door parts car.
(are the rumors that convertibles have different trunks than hard tops true?)
Next was taking out the windshield to make sure the channel was in good shape. -it's in great shape with only some minor pitting in a few places.

Next will be the convertible frame. The original was kinda rusty, but Jim gave me a great one.

Nice save! Are you going with stock style restoration with it or what are your plans?

Does look solid. What are your plans? Back to stock colors etc?

I also laughed at the the dealer name. I love dealer emblems.

Rustin…it’s almost laughably bad for a dealership name.
Funny thing is…I have two ‘65’s from the same dealership!

I’m going back to stock. Red car, red interior, black roof…how much prettier can it get?
I will source a 65 400, I already have a set of heads. I won’t go crazy concourse, but i think it will be cool enough close to stock.
Vintage air and a 200-4R will probably be the 2 biggest deviations from stock.

(My other “Rustin’ ” car!

I would suggest getting a 66-67 "E" block. Then you don't have to mess with a cam for that other lifter angle.
