Removing cigar lighter
Removing cigar lighter
My grandpa broke the cigar lighter on the dash of my '70 Ninety-Eight, I'm trying to remove it to put a temp gauge in its place. I can't see it, but I've taken a picture with my arm up the dash's rear end. Does anyone know what the trick is to take it out?
Backside, the outer envelope or shroud unscrews.
You must hold the inside still and turn the outside [behind the dash] off.
Remember, righty tighty left loosey is reversed 'cause you are looking at the other end of it.
I have found that SOMETIMES a thumb will hold the inside part where the lighter goes, and then turn it back and forth while turning the backside outer shroud back n forth also until it comes loose. Sometimes they are rusted or tight and more extensive measures are called for.

Thanks, that's good to know. It looked like it had threads but I couldn't get it to unscrew. I'll try harder.
I don't really know what exactly Grandpa did, but it was 30 years ago. My dad remembers him trying to splice something onto the power line in the dash. All I know is said power line is completely, 100% missing and the lighter looks kinda rough. Probably got pissed at it.
Lucky for me it's exactly the size of the temp. gauge I bought.
