68 bucket seats in a 69 cutlass S

Hey guys, so dad's giving me his old 1969 Cutlass from back in the day (all original down to the hub caps, was my great grandmothers car originally). Anyway, its been sitting for 25 years. The interior is trash. It has a bench seat, and theres a guy local with a set of 1968 "A body bucket seats" that he says fit chevelles, cutlass's, GTO's, ect. Would these seats fit in a 1969 Cutlass S? Also, in good shape would they be worth $250 or should I look elsewhere?

They will fit. The 68's don't have head rests and the pattern of the fabric will be different. $250 is a good price if you can bolt in and go, if they have to be recovered not so much.

Welcome to the site and post pics. If the interior is totally gone you may want to price out a whole interior and go from there so everything matches.

You will also need the tracks and mounting hardware for the bucket seats.

$250 is a good price even if they need restoring. Price on decent rebuildable (not rusted to hell) cores has been steadily going up.

66-72 GM bucket seats have the same overall dimentions and so the covers will all interchange.

68 seats have the seatback lock release mechanism on the outside edge of the seat back. 69-72 have a large button in the center of the seat back.

Personally i prefer the 67/68 design & location of the release button.

Grab em... order up some new covers & foam for your 69, and only the release button will give away that they aren't 100% correct.

As Larry mentioned above, you will need the mounting HW- bucket seats had special brackets that were welded to the floor pans to mount the seats to. These are reproduced, and you'll need them to do it right (you can also bolt them in & put some washers under the front feet as spacers to do the same thing, but its not really optimal)

anyway, hope this helps. Welcome aboard btw :-)

Thanks guys for all the info. I just learned that he had sold the seats last week so I guess I'm SOL. Either way, while the threads up I might as well ask. Will 14 inch 80s cutlass G body wheels fit on my 69? I found a sweet deal on a set with trim rings in tires

If you are going to go that route, nix the 14's and look for 15's. There is a limited tire selection for 14 inch wheels.

What's your plans with this car? Post some pictures when you get a chance.

Head rests were an option in 68

Must have been an option mine didn't have.

'68 headrests were mandatory with reclining seat; bench or bucket! Although I have a '66 reclining bench without headrests.
