Need some help on installing new carpet in a 71 442 with a duel gate shifter. I took out the olds carpet a few weeks back and I do not remember if the shifter mounts under the carpet, or on top. and is there any short cuts to installing the carpet.

 

shifter should mount directly to the floor....not on top of the carpet. Leave yourself plenty of extra carpet to flap up over the sides of the shifter...once you have the shifter placed you can then trim the carpet. That way you won't overdo it by trimming it first.
