what's it worth, 70-72 auto console

help me out guys, need some $$ so in what price range should I advertise this?

It's in great shape, nothing broken, missing, it's all there.. one flaw is the missing key besides that it's in great shape IMHO.

thanks

Ed

Hi Ed
The pat answer is what the market will bear, but that won't help you. Here's one on ebay in similar condition but it also has the shifter:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/330781329542...84.m1423.l2649

Here's one that even looks like the same color that sold not long ago, again it has the shifter with it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/150878266217...84.m1423.l2649

If you offer it here I'd bring the expectations down some, the number of potential buyers here is not as large as ebay. But I've had more headaches with transactions on ebay than here. So... If your going to offer it here I'd be thinking more like $300-350ish without the shifter. If you put it on ebay you may get more like $400ish. So its what your comfortable with.

John, those 2 you listed from ebay also include (one of them) the wiring harness and (the other) floor mounts in addition to the shifter. That's a bit of difference for a bare console. I think 300-350 for just the console shell is strong $$. Just my opinion.

And that's what Ed needs. Several of us to share our opinions for him to consider.

John - Gee I hope you don't think I was trying to low ball that. I did look at some of the other auctions on fleabay and there were some consoles c/w shifters that were IMO really ridiculously priced and they did sell but they were more complete too. Some peeps out there DO have $$$ to spend....

Personally I think your first answer is right on. Ed, with due apologies if I was looking at your console I know I'm going to have to put in new woodgrain, dye or paint it and get the mounts, wiring harness, shifter and re-key the box lid. So with that in mind, although your console looks really nice, I still see it as just a bare console. To be really honest, if it was mine I'd list it at 250.00 obo. I apologize to you now if that sounds offensive. I'm thinking about how much $$ a lot of people don't have for projects due to the economy. If you need to sell this to make some? I get that you want the most you can get. If I was a buyer it means I'm spending a fair chunk of my project money to buy an incomplete console shifter. I'm sure there's a ton of ways to look at this and everyone will likely have a different opinion. The only one that really counts though is yours.

I DO wish you the best on selling it for the most you can get.

Allan, I thought your comment was very appropriate. If 10 of us commented on what we thought it would go for Ed would likely have a very good number. Ed has posted it on a parts for sale thread, so back to my first comment we'll see what the market will bear. If that's too high then it won't sell and Ed will need to evaluate what price he wants to try next. IMHO it's all good!

this is the reason why I asked, thanks to both of you.

the wiring harness for the light is there and the wood grain is in decent condition so I'll probably list for $300 and ask for best offer going from there!

Good luck Ed. You should mention in the ad that it has the wiring harness. I'm sure you know this, but that woodgrain is for 1970. If someone with a 70 buys it, Bonus! But it's a different woodgrain pattern for 71 and 72.

I think Johns comment on "answer is what the market will bear" is an excellent response. Prime example, there was a mint console with all brackets, wiring, black and even included hurst dual gate shifter in Columbus Ohio on CL that sat for sale for 350.00 for over 5 months. I figured that would have been long gone but I watched it sit and sit. I called the guy and asked about it, he was firm in price said has at least 5 calls a day on it but no one has yet to buy it as they say price is too high. I thought it was an awesome deal myself. But like John said about what the market will bear, the market in some area's is soft compared to other areas right now. What sells for 1000 in Texas may only go for 500 in Indiana for example.

I say 250 to 300 for a console in good shape is a good price. If it doesn't sell at that price you could always relist or just put it back until market picks up.

Edit:
Hell it's from a 70 and itk's green, even I might be interested in it LOL

Heck, I'll put out a standing 250.00 offer. So if someone doesn't snag this beauty up for your set 300.00 price, you will have me to fall back on. I would rather buy a green console with good grain than have to dye my current black console and buy a grain strip off ebay. Be nice to have a correct year console in my 70.

No worries at all, I am in no hurry. My offer was more of an "If it don't sell for what you want" type thing. My console is actually in super nice shape. It's just the wrong color and I didn't really want to dye it.

Good luck with the auction hope it sells.
