72 Cutlass seats

How difficult is it to replace a bench seat with buckets? Is it a relatively straightforward switch out from another GM A-body?

adaptors

I just changed from a split bench to buckets in my 72 supreme. They sell adaptor brackets for the conversion on several sites. They do seam to be generic, becuase the fit aint great. the brackets are approx three inchs wide and 16 inches long, with two threaded studs sticking out from them. I mounted it to the seats, layed the in the vehicle and sat in them to get them in the right place, marked the floor plan and then welded them to the ploor plan. they seam to spread out the weight over the entire covered area instead of just where the bolts would mount. there may be an easyer way,but then I aint no mechanic. Got the conversion mounts from USA Parts supply and my seats from Summit Racing. But there are many other sites that sell them> Good luck!

Nope it's pretty easy, just take your time and make small cuts. I you screw it up, they dont take them back. The carpets are pre molded to fit the floor pan.

If you put in buckets your lady can't sit right next to you. Just something to think about.

If you're doing this, are you planning to also change the steering column, install the console shifter and change out the speedo? I really like the strato bucket seats too, but the factory bench with armrest is what I settled for.

wdgraham1 gives good information in his post. You can buy the aftermarket bucket seat hardware (including bucket seat bracket set) fairly easily from aftermarket suppliers.
