bottom seat trim and seat back panel color

I am recovering the seats on my 68 442. The bucket seat back panels and the bottom seat trim surrounds are black and the seats are off white. Doesn't look right. Are the trim panels supposed to be black or same color as seat covers?

The seatbacks and bottoms should "match" the seat vinyl cover. Someone either swapped yours or decided to do their own interior design work and painted them the contrasting color (maybe they figured it would look cool to have those parts match the carpet color)....I can see how they got the idea.

Are yours pieces metal or plastic??

If you have a white or slightly offwhite interior then you might try SEM Super White Vinyl/Plastic paint on the panels. If yours are metal then you should probably find a way to strip them to bare, clean metal.

They should be plastic on a 68.

That's what I thought. When did they make metal ones?

I think only '67 Cutlii used the metal trim pieces.

If the underlying metal on those is still in nice condition you need to save them. Lots of these metal backs are now rusting away on salvage cars as the weather has finally taken its toll on them.

You should be able to find a buyer for them if they are nice.
