Quarter Window Rollers
Quarter Window Rollers
I ordered a lower quarter window roller for a 71 442 from Ebay. That may have been a mistake.
When I took it out of the bag I could barely turn it by hand. Even after lube and considerable working by hand, it only loosened up slightly. One of the guys at work who owns a 70 Nova said "Yeah, they're like that when new"
There's no way I see this rolling on the guide track, it's just going to drag. Is this normal and if not can anyone recommend a good source.
Thanks, Frank

If it doesn’t spin freely, you’ll need a different part.
You might consider drilling the nylon/teflon spin hole ever-so-slightly oversize. Like 1/32”. Or even just sand the center a bit with some high grit sandpaper - like 800 or 1000 grit to open it up just enough to spin freely. GM used these rollers on probably millions of cars.
Or just get some rollers from a different vendor. I keep a supply around with rivets so I can review whenever I have the doors & quarters open.
They’re not exactly service wear parts, but 50 years on, we can’t complain too much.
Best of luck with your windows. It’s a great feeling when they roll up and down just like they were designed to.

Thanks Chris, that's what I thought.
I'm going to order from another vendor this morning and if I'm not happy with this one, I'm using one from my parts car. I know it looks pretty good because I've R&R'd the window for practice.
P.S. I didn't order the cheapest thing on Ebay either, $29.00 for one roller and it "looked" just like the most expensive ones.
And to anyone doing this job , the Fisher Body Manual is great. The only thing I might add is to remove the pressure relief valve (for vision and hand access) and the u-shaped jamb seal which made it a little easier to slip the regulator roller out of the window track.
Thanks again
