1974 cutlass supreme seat skins

Hi all! I’ve been looking for the seat skins for my 74 Cutlass. Other than one guy saying he could make them for $3000 and not put them on the frame for that price, I’m lost. Does anyone know where I can pick up a set to re upholster my seats?

There are no reproductions, so it's a cut and stitch job. The vinyl material is common enough. Your problem will be salvaging the heat-embossed uppers.

3 grand sounds a little high to me. Think he's saying he doesn't want the job. He'll be hungry some day.

Where are you? Someone here may know of a good upholsterer close by.

I’m in woodland Wa, there are tons of upholstery shops around me, I just don’t know who I would want to use. I talked to one shop who said he would recover my front and back seats for $7k and I am really just not wanting to talk to any shop at that rate. I was hoping for skins so I could do it my self.

That cat better be working for Dave Kindig or White Post Restorations to ask that kind of $$$. And he's not putting the covers on the frames?

Granted, I haven't had any auto upholstery work done in 12 years but that still sounds outrageous. Is his work absolutely flawless?

If you don't care about originality- a 73-77 Chevelle seat cover set will fit your frames correctly, and I believe that PUI makes them.
You will probably have 3-4 month wait to get them though, they will likely be made to order, not sitting on a shelf somewhere.

There used to be a place that would make generic covers with a variety of pattern design options for any american car from the 30's into the 90's... but they went bankrupt last year, and nobody has bought those patterns to start making them again. Its a bummer as i had used them a handful of times and they were decent.

I can't remember if Colonnade Chevelles had armrest front bench seat or not. Wasn't aware anyone was making any Colonnade era seat covers. Wouldn't hurt to look into it.

Pre-73 chevelles, no arm rest. But 73+ Yes. I owened a 75 elcamino and it had the armrest bench. Pretty sure they all did after 73.

Boy no ****. 7k? Not installed? Obviously doesn't care about or need money.

I have a feeling you wont find anyone to do it under $2k. No patterns available, probably some spring, frame repairs. If you find somebody to do quality work, it will be the same amount of work for a car worth $1k or $100k. But for about $800 you can buy a sewing machine and about $400 in materials, you could sew your own.

As mentioned above the 73-77 chevelle covers will be the same. Looks like the 74-77 had the armrest option.
Looks like they are backordered though... no real surprise there, all upholstery MFGs are backed up right now. Order now, have it in March or April i would guess.
