So, I have two questions particularly about my 69' post sedan cutlass dash.

1: Where can I find the info on how to remove it?
I need to remove it to get to the metal under the windshield to clean up as it has had a leak since before I have had it, and need to clean up the rust.

2: is there a paint that is great for painting the dash? can you even paint them?
I am sick of the fawn gold, and am changing the interior color

I don't have a 69 manual but in the 68 manual the diagram showing the nuts that have to be removed are in section 1-3, page 116

BTW, the center stud is a post. There's no nut on it and it has to be removed with a swift smack from the rear

I think you are talking about the assembly manual. In the CSM the drawings are actually in Chapter 12AA, which is the A-body instrument panel chapter.

 

Yeah, you're right Joe. I hardly use the CSM for anything anymore.

 

If the OP wants to repair rust at the base of the windshield I wouldn't think they need to remove the dash. I know I've got an old thread with pictures of the metal dash support and the dash itself showing the mounting points, but I wasn't able to find it with the search option. If the OP does need to remove the dash I'll look for those pictures. But back to my first thought, do you guys think he needs to remove everything to repair rust at the base of the glass? John

 

By the time you get through cutting, welding, grinding, and painting, you are probably much better off getting the dash pad out of harm's way before attempting this repair. Yeah, you can probably do it without removing the pad, but why risk it?

 

Diagrams are good, but when available I like pictures. Here's some I took several years ago when I pulled the dash from a 1969 parts car. This post is the backside of the dash pad/instrument panel. I'll do another post with the metal support behind it. John

This....THIS is the type of help I like as well. pictures are a big + for me, thank you.

And yes, I want to remove the dash for a couple of reasons. I would like to paint it, but also i am going to replace the windshield as it is cracked beyond repairs (previous owners doing) and I figured it would be a good idea to do this all at once. wire grind the rust out, paint it with rustoleum or some other rust preventative paint, and put the dash in with a new color other then that god awful fawn gold she has now.
