Turn signal lever removal???

1984 Delta 88 Royale w/tilt wheel, cruise control, delay wipers-- How do I go about removing the turn signal lever from the column switch?
Once lever is out and wire(s) unplugged at bottom of column, I plan on connecting a strong string to the unplugged wire(s) and hopefully pull them out the top, then reverse procedure for new lever asm.

Pre-Thanks for any help given on this matter.

Arrow Switch removal

Just pull firmly straight out and the lever slips out of its socket- there are a couple of wires attached so don't get carried away with excess movement
