Time for a change...of color
Lol! I mighta', sorta. already had this bookmarked. I told myself if the painting went well I would order this. It went well enough
Besides, mine is cracked pretty bad on the back and on both sides. Not sure that's safe.
Is this a decent wheel and a decent price?

Ran into some trouble with the painted dash. It looks great from inside but it wasn't until I removed the masking from the front glass that I realized some surfaces can't be sprayed from the one angle. The windshield may come sooner rather than later but I didn't realized it would cost more than twice what my truck cost. Is it harder to replace?

Mac it looks really nice from the pic.
Windshield the glass guy here locally told me 35 bucks to pull and install the glass. I think the glass was 125.00. he did tell me he didn't want to put the trim on as he didn't want to be responsible for damage he did say he would if I wanted him to.
On my 72 they damaged the trim and gave me the run around. ( different guy ) so make sure you get a good installer not the new kid

$160.00? That sounds really good. I haven't talked to anyone yet, just online quotes. When I do I'm going to ask if I can get someone with classic car experience. So far the cheapest I've been quoted is $265.00.
Mac, mine is a 65 . I think your on line prices are high or is insurance prices. If I run it through my insurance it's only a100 deductible, I would check with your local shops and see.
My 72 installed 9 years ago was 125 cash but that was long ago

Hey Mac, have you checked eBay? I have found tinted WS for my 66 for as low as $119.00. Granted, no antenna, but still a very good price. That is for local PU, and they have shops all over the US.
I didn't get a chance to deal with the glass today but thanks for all the input.
Here's what I did do. I don't care what anyone says, this was a PITA. The covers slid on fine but they were designed a little differently than the originals but the instructions say to follow the originals. It was confusing. But to be fair, both my originals were installed slightly differently. One more note: there is a piece inside that is razor sharp so be careful if you attempt this. I cut my index finger bad enough to need a couple of butterflies. A shout out to the wife for helping out with this part of the interior.
Anyway, the backs are done. I'm hoping the bench is a little easier.

Oh, and I LOVE this hog-ring plier tool! WHy am I just learning of this thing?! Lol.

My seats are out as well, but I hit a roadblock on the path to recover mine. When I stripped out the old carpet and began to clean out the floor I saw that all of the area under the front part of the carpet that had a crappy cardboard/padding/insulator basically trapped all moisture and and turned that part of the floor pan into a rust haven. After I hit it with the wire brush I saw that the passenger side is a bit swiss-cheesy (see pics). Going to the Eastwood store in Alsip tomorrow to pick up some rust encapsulation spray and home depot to get some sheet metal and then I start cutting

Hope you have better luck than me with your floor pan!
Mac, all seats have sharp objects new or old lol. Sorry about the hand hopefully it wasn't to bad
Mac if you pull your windshield to finish the dash do your headliner I found out today it's better gluing with the windshield out.
I stretched it clipped then went back and glued standing from the out side easyer on the back.

My floor boards are in good shape. I'd had a peek but not a good look. Whew!

[/IMG]Question: putting the hardware back on the seat looks straight forward enough, other than the headrest latch hardware. Any tips on finding those small screw holes through the thick padding up on top?
Front seat bottom is covered. Long day but it went well. The springs were a little soft and I once tried this on a couch and it worked well so I gave it a go here. That's dollar store nylon rope.
[/IMG]
Then I added new burlap and another 1/2" of foam, cut to fit (and cut the seat belt holes).
[/IMG]
I had my wife AND daughter sitting on the bench to compress it enough to hog-ring. I also installed the bolts and screws before covering it so I can find where to cut for them more easily. I haven't installed the hardware yet but I'm very pleased with the results. I need to apply some heat to those wrinkles on the front but I'm not real worried about them coming out.

Headliner begins Tuesday.

You'll do fine on the headliner, Mac. I think someone pointed you to a great thread on doing them earlier and with your meticulous approach...it'll be great. I've done them before and it really isn't difficult if you pay attention.
I'm still waiting to see how you make out on those armrest backing plates!

Oh yeah, the backing plates! I totally forgot. They're done but buried somewhere. I'll def get some pics of those up. They turned out "okay". Not like the youtube vids but better than stock, I think. My mistake was only ordering one can for both plates. Should have ordered two.

Finished installing the hardware on the bench and backs this morning and spent the rest of the day working on the armrest. The wrinkles came out very easy with a simple hairdryer and just a couple of minutes.

The armrest was more difficult than anticipated because it was in bad shape and needed some repairs. And I'm missing one of the side trim pieces that hides some seams and the other is missing pieces. If you have the front bench with armrest seats, you know the flap that attaches to the armrest frame and folds up when not in use. I think I'm going to use velcro to attach that piece so I can store CDs or something down in there.

I spent the last couple of days finishing up the painting of all the interior parts. Rear door panels, etc, etc. Seemed like every time I thought I was done, I wasn't, lol. The coat hangers, the headrest hardware, little but important stuff like that.
I also found some four inch speakers that have pretty good sound that I installed in the kick panels for front seat sound. And I worked on the dash some more. As I said, there are certain surfaces you can't reach when spraying from one direction. I ended up making a modified foam brush, slopping a lot of paint/dye into those spots (the defroster openings, speaker grill, etc) and while it was still somewhat wet, sprayed the heck out of it again. It worked pretty well. There are a couple of drips but they are hard to see. I'll fix them when I do get the windscreen replaced.
I ended today by pulling down the old headliner. I took lots of pics because I won't get to work on it until Tuesday. I'm having an art show in Aurora and have to pack the work tomorrow and drive it up on Monday.

So, headliner and carpet and I'll be ready to start putting it all back together

X2. The Supreme body style was designed for a vinyl top, especially with the classy halo stainless mouldings. Too much C pillar with out the vinyl top breaking it up. Thats why you hardly ever see a Supreme without a vinyl top. JMO.
Question: If I have the paint touched-up here and there; the corners of the hood up by the windshield, behind the rear tires, the trunk lid, would it still be considered original paint? Or is it even possible to paint match? I've used paintscratch.com and if you send them a sample, the color is right on.
Mac, not sure how your A pillers are. mine had a L shape part the screwed into the A piller and hooked over the front wind lace. I glued around the hole pulled tight and installed that L trim let dry and went pack and trimmed off the extra fabric
I'm not sure what a wind lace is but I do have A-pillar covers that screw into place. I'm not sure if they're tight enough to clamp the fabric in place but I'll check tomorrow. Thanks Justin.
Thanks Randy. It wasn't really all that hard, just time consuming. I still need to glue it down but I'm hoping that goes more quickly.
And hey, I knew the liner was supposed to come with new fabric for the sail panels but mine came with new sail panels. That was a nice surprise

Great job Mac!! Now I wish I would have bought a new one.

And I think your headliner looks really good. Mine's not perfect. A couple of sewing flaws I think. That's what I get for going to eBay but you'd REALLY have to look to see it.
Glad you got your floor fixed!
Oh wait; I still have to lay the rest of the deadener. Guess you're doing the carpet first.
Hey everyone; what's the best way to block out exhaust drone? It sounded to me like it was coming mostly from under and behind the back seat and the package tray area. Would laying the deadener in the trunk help?
Hey fellas, I'm thinking I might trim the excess, or at least some of it, before I glue the headliner down. It would make it way easier to get the glue on the flange. Thoughts?
Also, are the sail panels glued in as well or should I just let the molding hold them in place? I don't think I'll need them back out again but one never knows.

Aha, that's what that little black square is! Velcro, in 1971? My replacement sail panels have double sided tape on the cardboard. Probably won't use that either.
Thanks Sammy. I just hope the headliner looks as good after I get it glued down.

Full day of work today. I got the headliner glued down. It was a little freaky taking those clips off, thinking I would ruin all the hard work I did yesterday but it was easier than I thought.
The rest of the day was spent cleaning the floor and laying the sound deadener. The generic stuff I got off eBay was a bit smelly. Not quite an asphalt smell, more rubbery. It seemed fine but I really liked the Protecto-wrap. It's a bit thin, maybe 30-35 mil, but SUPER sticky and absolutely no odor. If it were thicker it would be the perfect, low-cost solution. But as is, one would need to double it up for thickness, meaning twice the price and twice the work! And the stuff gummed up my scissors in no time making it difficult to cut. Just my impressions if anyone is interested.

Tomorrow I'll trim the headliner and make sure it's glued well, install the carpet, and maybe the headliner hardware; visors, mirror, seatbelts, etc. But I have a thing at school at noon.. Darn reality
