I have bought new sun visors off of E-Bay and the plastic inserts and mounts from opgi.
I put the inserts in the chrome swivel mount and put the sun visor in them and tighten the screw as tight as I can but they just flop down and will not hold any position. Has anyone come across this?
The mounts and plastic inserts are new and so are the sun visors. I've compared the ends of the sun visor to my old orginal ones and they look the same.
Any help would be appreciated. ~Cheers~ Tods

 

Something's not the right size, either the visor shafts, the plastic inserts, or the swivel receivers.
Since they are all new, the problem could be in any or all of them, as "new" (read: Chinese) parts tend to be manufactured to poor tolerances.

Unfortunately, you'll just have to mess with them till you find a solution.
If there's any way you can reuse old parts, other than the inserts, you'll probably be better off.

I would try measuring with an AMD [Accurate Measuring Device]

Then proceed accordingly. Compare original parts sizes to what you have now.

I assume this is the common method of pinching the shaft by tightening a screw within a more or less C shaped part? Perhaps the screw bottoms out [or ends of the "C" contact each other] before pinch is attained... and/or the OD of the sleeved shaft is too small for the ID of the C shaped part that is supposed to grip it.

It is possible that the sleeve could be made fairly easily, if its desired OD and ID are common nominal sizes, out of say copper tubing or nylon tubing or similar.
