Sport steering wheel how to.
My 52 year 69 Olds sport steering wheel is oooozing oil base products from the plastic and it’s a mess. It is rather in a warm climate.
Any ideas how to stop or help stop the gooey mess? Ideas are highly appreciated.
No idea is too stupid!!
Thanks

Mine does the same thing. It can be restored but the cost is around $800-$1000 and I just don't want to spend it. I've heard others use different products to repeatedly clean the steering wheel, namely wax and grease remover and WD40 to name a couple. One solution I saw on this site and have tried and liked is cleaning the steering wheel occasionally with a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol. It seems to keep it clean for a couple of months before the wheel gets sticky again.

Fair amount of related information out there on this forum. Try searching as this topic comes up often. I have one on my '69 442 and I've never been able to keep it clean. The material is de-plasticizing so that goo will continue to leach out. I've been able to get mine squeaky clean from time to time but after a month, it comes back. Others on here claim theirs stay dry but I have a hard time believing they'll stay that way. No stopping father time.

On the 70-up sport wheels ive used hot water and dawn, the mequirs cleaner and alcohol. All worked on all the stickiness came back.
The most effective thing ive found is drive it. If i dont drive for a week or two the wheel gets sticky, if i drive everyday it does not feel sticky.
it does not leave my hands sticky after driving inany situation.

yes lightly dampened blue shop rag with acetone, i wipe until it quits adhering to the rag, I just did a treatment a month ago and it is still not sticky, so not sure how long it lasts but my wheel was almost slick after i cleaned it.

This forum is priceless. I do appreciate everyone’s input. Like I said no idea is too stupid. I will attempt all these methods and see which works the best. Thanks to the Oldsmobile enthusiasts.
