I pulled my bucket seats (72 Cutlass conv) and the springs are not right. I don't have a good diagram that shows how the springs are supposed to be attached but I knoe the dhe lever spring goes from the hole in the lever to the front track base. I assume it supposed to be the thinner spring in the spring kits. I'm not sure about the other side.
Does anyone have a picture of where it should go? Yellow spring, NOS? Nice coil spring - looks aftermarket.
Yes, those are mine. Not the seat springs, the track springs.
One spring is yellow, I'm sure that isn't original and the springs are different sizes. And the big spring on the passenger side doesn't look right - I have not seen a spring kit that includes 5 springs for 2 seats, and none have been that size.
There has been lots of work done to this car that isn't right.. I fix what I can find. I know these have been out of the car as the carpet was replaced and I found some material stuffed under the driver's seat to prop it up due to bad springs. I'm repairing that now and will try to save the seat covers as they are in good shape, its the padding and springs that need help.
I don't know how this was supposed to be so that is why I'm asking..
Those springs are correct for your car. The reason the kits you see don't have 5 springs (should be 6 because you are actually missing a spring) is because the cable-released inner track was only put on later in the 72 model year. 64- early 72 used a locking track on the outside and an inner track that moved freely with no lock and no small spring to keep the lock engaged. The yellow outer springs are absolutely correct, and the large inner spring on your passenger seat is also correct. You are missing a matching large spring on the driver side. The purpose of the large springs is to help move the seat forward against the forward momentum of the car if you adjust it while the car is moving.
