Running seat belts thru new upholstery

I am doing the upholstery work myself on my 72 Cutlass Supreme. I am using PUI Interiors for my upholstery. Even though I have never done anything like this before, I did the back seat and things went pretty smoothly. It took me a few weekends to watch numerous youtube videos and read through multiple threads on this site but I finally got the courage up to go for it. Replaced the foam and the burlap on both front and back seats.
I am now working on the front bench seat. It is not as easy. Seat bottom went on good but the seat backs are a little more difficult getting seams to line up, pulling the upholstery tight enough to get the designed cutout to fit over the seat latch mechanism and getting everything tucked in and hog ringed in place.
My dilemna is, running the two floor mounted center seat belts up through the bench seat upholstery. I cut out a space in the foam but there is no factory created hole in the upholstery to run the seat belts.
Is there a good method for doing this? Is it just taking an exacto knife and cutting a slot in the upholstery? (This scares me).
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott

I had this exact problem when I had the bench seat for my 62 recovered. The upholstery shop did not allow any openings for the center belts. I ended up cutting them myself.
