Rear Quarter Window

Rear Quarter Window
Does anyone have a diagram for the proper assembly of the rear quarter window in a 68 442/cutlass? My left rear quarter window doesn't crank properly. I've got the trim, water shield and cover removed (I'm looking at the window mechanics), but can't figure out what is wrong (e.g., is a part missing, loose, etc). I'm loathe to rip apart the other side to observe a properly functioning window. Any help is appreciated!!!

There should be a nylon wheel at the end of the regulator arm, it moves back and forth in a channel when you turn the crank. Check to make sure the wheel is still there and not broken. Then look at the channel to make sure it's not rusty, but it should have a waxy like substance to lubricate it. If that all checks out then look for rust in the regulator gear itself, where the crank handle attaches. Unless someone's been in there messing with it and put something in wrong, those would be the two most likely places for trouble. John

OK, I just went out and checked the 1968 442 in my "attacked by cannibals" posting and the rear side panel is gone... probably weathered away! There's actually two nylon wheels, one on the regulator and the other on the glass. Here's several pictures of the assembly in the car. Let me know if you need to see any other views, or if it's unclear what the photograph is showing. My families big Christmas dinner isn't until late this afternoon so I'll check my email every once in a while today. John

Ok - checked it out again. The white wheel is out of the track completely (the long vertical track). Also, there's a small metal **** at the base (almost looks like a lubricating nipple). 2 questions - how do you get the wheel back in the track, and where does that metal nipple-thingy go? Thanks.

I've taken these apart but not put one back together so I'm guessing at how to get it back in the track. If someone else has a suggestion please speak up!
The channel has an open slot at the very top, so you'll have to put the wheel in up there. I would try loosening the bolts that hold the channel in place, then get the glass as high as I can and see if it will go in. If that fails, then I'd completely undo the bolts and with someone else holding the glass move the channel into the wheel, then partially lower the glass to keep it there, then put the bolts back in for the channel metal. You'll have to experiment with the adjustment of the channel metal before tightening it all down.
I'm not pictureing the nipple thingy, can you tell us more about it's location?

After staring at your pictures and my car until I was cross-eyed, I now at least understand how the mechanism works. I much appreciate your help with that. Per your guidance, I've loosened the channel metal, but it's going to be a tough one (several hours or more of fidgeting and finessing). Hopefully, I get it done this week 'cause I'm lights out now (family dinner, much like you).
Thanks for the help, and have a great xmas. I'll plug in again when I get stuck or get it finished.

If there is a metal nipple thingy in there it is probably a hub with the nylon roller missing... there are adjustments in there for fore and aft adjustment and up and down stops so you can spend a relaxing afternoon fiddle-ing around with your quarter inch ratchet set and a hot cup of tea...
