Rally (steering) Wheel Horn Button
Hi All,
I scored a nice 4 spoke rally wheel at a local swap meet, the color is a medium brown. (Sienna) Now comes the hard part, finding a horn button to match. Does anyone here have one they'd like to sell? PM me, thanks.
Mike

Hi Mike, my interior is Sienna as well...I painted the hub brown, to match the rest of the column. I left the horn button black. I think it looks good that way. Wasn't sure the paint would stick properly on the soft, flexible part of the button. I didnt want to mess up a nice part!

I have a Sienna interior as well. I dyed the horn button Sienna to match even though it isn't correct. GM matched some colours and not others. I know they matched the blue in 70 and the Saddle in 72, but not the Sienna in 71. Attached is a picture of my sport wheel with the Sienna horn button, that in my opinion looks more finished, and nicely compliments the rest of interior.

The guy I bought it from had several... 3 black, 1 blue and the brown one, all were $30 each. I didn't know if brown was original or not, but the color was close to sienna. (and still cheaper than restoring my original deluxe steering wheel)

The vinyl dye I had mixed was from 15 years ago from NAPA. It was a Dupont Lucite product number 9820V. I checked there about a year ago and they had no listing for it anymore. Of course, it is now on a computer system, and therefore probably gave up listing such old colors. Perhaps if you could obtain old paint charts for Dupont etc. you could still possibly have it made. Good luck and let us know what you find out.
Ah, you have an SX convertible, how nice, 1 of 357. I'm jealous.

Brian, your Sienna center does look really sharp, great looking dash area too! What color is the rest of your car? I didn't really know for sure that black was the only color for '71...thanks
Mike, I got the paint for the hub at NAPA's paint shop (C-Max), here in Edmonton. They brought a color reading gun out to the car to scan the steering column. Then they matched it as close as they could with a color in their system. It's not perfect, but very close, and way better than a black hub on a Sienna column. I may check again in the spring if they can try again and use less gloss in the paint (a bit too shiny)It was only a $15 experiment for a small bottle!

My SX is also Sienna outside, Code 67, with a white vinyl top. I acquired it 25 years ago while on vacation in Largo, Florida. During the restoration, I've added many factory options to make it more desrable and interesting. It was built the first week of December of 1970 in Arlington, Texas.
What colour is yours and how long have you owned it? Was it originally sold in Canada or the US?
This is an interesting thread with three SX owners.

Interesting indeed...2 are Canadian, also??? My car is Sienna interior and the special Bittersweet (62code) exterior color w/white vinyl top. It was produced in April of '71 @ Fremont California factory. The car was sold new in Alberta and has been here its whole life. I have owned it for a year only. The car was painted and had some bodywork done sometime in the '80's, I believe.

Brian/Billy,
My '71 SX was built in Lansing and sold new in late '71 at Biddulph Oldsmobile in Glendale, AZ. It was purchased by the second owner in '75 and that family owned it until I found it in their carport in 2008. I got it in original, but very tired condition, and have slowly been bringing it back to life.
The cool thing is it spent its life in AZ, and was adult owned. The color is 67 Sienna with a white convertible roof and Sienna interior. I also added a few options such as an original am/fm mono radio, dual sport mirrors, a rally wheel and a clock. My plan is to get it road worthy and cruise it to some local shows. It's great to chat with some fellow SX owners, and you can see a pic of it on my profile page.
