Was wondering if I can just remove the inner plastic part where the gauges and radio are or if I'm gonna run into a point where the whole dash has to come out I really need to go through every wire so I need to be able to see as much as possible. Thanks for letting me know
For 1901 its curved and doesnt really exist.
For a 1929 Olds F29 its only held in with 4 screws and its wood. Only 3 wires.
For a 57 Olds 88 it shows fastener locations in the assembly manual. More wires.
For a 68-69 you need the same manual even more wires.
For a 70-......well you get the picture...we kinda need year make model and A/C or no A/C.
This is where a visual is worth 1000 words. Invest in the wiring and assembly manuals. It will save you a sheet ton of time.
Woops sorry I figured the picture was good enough that someone would be able to give me an answer I forgot to put in the model and year I'm working on it and more focused on it I'm pretty sure by now I can get the whole center plastic piece out. And no ac 67 cutlass. I think if I can get the center plastic out that will give me access to the gauges and ignition to go through the wiring I pulled the front bench to make it easier to lay under.
Had some visitors run up on me I thought I was gonna die that pitbull was huge. Lucky they were friendly. And I just need to follow every wire and inspect them and make sure there all right. Found to many wires taped together. I bought the car from my brother and the last time I bought something from him was a boat and that caught on fire in the middle of the lake so I'm not gonna play around. I'm gonna do it right and not worry about what someone else did.
A word of caution before you dive into the abyss cutting wires & rebundling wires.
Every single wire is color-coded for a very specific reason. Make certain as you cut each wire you label each and every wire as to the EXACT color-code contained on the wire e.g. pink w/ white stripe, brown w/ black stripe, solid yellow etc.
That dash is a mess. I did a picture step by step on pulling these out. You as you learning need to pull it all.

Glad you did not experience a fire from that wiring mess. If these cars could talk that stories they would tell. When you get to reassemble make sure you use lots of grounding washers to ensure it does ground well.

No it's my bad. I keep forgetting GD Fort Knox work firewall doesn't let posted pictures through. Sorry man. Definitely, time to invest in a whole new harness. Good time to go through all grounds too to eliminate future gremlins.
Cool color on that post Cutlass...what is it? Its got a lot of red in it. Bet it reflects purple in the right light?
