I have my 1971 Conv for around 23 years now and on the first round I did PUI Pearl White and on the second round went with Legendary. The:Legendary Pearl was a little whiter and deeper than the PUI. The Legendary door panels seem a little better. I did PUI around 2000, so don't know if the quality has deteriorated , but back then it was quite adequate.

I can only speak about Lengendary since I purchased from them. From the before and after pictures of my front seat, you can see the difference in the quality. The covers that came with the car are cheaper, have no definition in the pleating which is a big factor in how these covers look. Hope this helps with your decision.

I'm a PUI dealer and still waiting for orders from last April, so they aren't any quicker than Legendary. Legendary is higher quality and higher price.

Here is a post I made in another thread a few days ago:

I have used Legendary, PUI, and Distinctive over the years on a number of different cars. A lot of fuss is made about the difference in quality of each. While there certainly is a difference, I do not know if that equals the difference in price. I.E. Is the difference in quality great enough to justify the much higher price of some companies? Like others said, the current lead time is several months for most orders so possibly arriving Sep - Oct if then by placing your order today.
Here are some examples of seats I've restored using Legendary, PUI, and Distinctive. To repeat, all three companies are represented in the photos below. See if you can pick out which is which.

Example 1

Example 2

Example 3

Example 4

Example 5

I have done a few other sets over the years, but i can't find pics of them.

PUI door panels wood grain and Mylar trim have a reputation for not lasting. This door panel was never installed, all four look the same. Unfortunately it was stored longer then the warranty period so now I’m stuck with them.

That's pretty crazy. I see you are in CA. What is the climate like (hot/ dry or hot/ humid)? I have used quite a few sets of PUI door panels up here in south central PA and non have done that. One set has been in a car for the last 18 years. I can't say I have thought about the definition in the pleats on the seat covers, but it is pretty obvious in those pics. Odd thing is, door panels seem to be the other way. PUI makes door panels that are much more "puffy" than stock while Legendary and SMS make flatter more correct looking panles. Like I said above though, it is all about how far you want to go and what you are willing to sacrice (cost vs quality). A full set (front and rear) of distictive seat covers cost the same as a front set of Legendary covers and will maybe cover half the cost of the material for one seat from SMS but probably not.

For what it's worth, I purchased the molded, ACI benchseat foam from NPD (Pontiac GTO); instead of Legendary at a savings. I say this not knowing if you have buckets or bench in your automoble, but online shopping can save money.

Many years ago we only had PUI doing oldsmobile interior kits. Now with Legendary doing them they are WAY more accurate and well made.

One more comparison:
Here is a shot of the 69 PUI parchment seats along with some pics of the original green 69 covers I took off of those seats. As TNSWT stated, you can see the pleats in the new covers are not quite as deep as on the originals.

so, if one was to do a complete resto on an interior, from floor pan to convertible top, would buying the complete kit from OPG be the best route? it says a savings of 470 bucks versus buying individual parts. i need everything to put my 65 442 back together so i am shopping now.

I'm a PUI dealer (low volume), OPGI has good prices but plan on waiting for 9 months minimum. I ordered a complete interior for my '65 442 last April and still don't have it.

According to their website, most of the kit will ship by end of the month.the only thing that says it won’t ship until November is the rear view mirror. I guess I need to call them.

I think I am a little late to the party but I sprung for legendary a couple years ago for my 69 442 that I finally got painted after 22 years!! Everything looked nice but I finally just tried to install the assembled rear panels and they do not fit. I spent about an hour trying to get it to fit, bending the top metal part kind of got it to fit but then the part that extends towards rear looks terrible, bent and wrinkled. I put my original panels back in, they are not terrible but after doing the nice paint job, I thought a nice new interior would be the icing on the cake! I am not sure what to do, nothing is available now. I may try calling Legendary but after doing some searching it sounds like they are not known for their customer service and their panel fit is questionable. I was very disappointed, years ago I thought Legendary was supposed to be the best? I may try PUI. I do have PUI in my 70 442 convert and just like an earlier post on here, the wood grain is all wrinkled, lasted about 10 years. No wood grain on the 69 panels.

I can't understand why you wouldn't call Legendary. I have purchased several items from Legendary & my experiences w/ their customer service/support have been outstanding.

Thanks Norm, it is encouraging to hear your good experience!! I will call them. I purchased through Original Parts group over 2 years ago so shame on me for not trying to install sooner. Hopefully i can send them back and get some replacements that fit.
