Hey new guy here and just getting dirty with my convertible. The pearl interior is trashed I need it all, seats, door panels, you name it. Building this on a budget with my 10 year old so appreciate any cost concieous advice. (Actully the car is a 71 I just fat fingered the "2" when I created my user name)

Oh yeah I have a new rear window to install too. Any directions / advice?

While there are many ways my interior job could have cost less, skimping on good materials was not an option. Go with Legendary for quality. The back seat and rear armrest panels you can probably recover yourself. I would recommend a pro redo the front seat(s). The idea is to never have to pull the carpet again, so be sure to clean the floor pan and either paint it or POR15 it. The dynamat will not be neccessary unless you are planning long trips in it and you want it cooler and quieter.

How does your top look? Is this a plastic or glass window?

 

The Parts Place has the best prices I've seen on aftermarket interior stuff. They carry both Legendary and PUI. The PUI is fine if you're just building a driver, in my opinion. You should also check ebay often as there's often small suppliers unloading their inventory of old upholstery.

If you can salvage any of the interior trim, vinyl dye does wonders - and it will take a good bit of abuse. I've used it on kick panels, windlace, door panels, even touch-up on seats. Buy a good quality one like SEM and use their prep aerosol first for better adhesion. Eastwood carries a good selection of colors - or you can try Classic Dye Products.
