Need a Perl colored spray paint.
Need a Perl colored spray paint.
Need a Perl colored spray paint.
My cutlass has a Perl interior trim color.
Some of the parts have faded and turned Yellow.
Has anyone found a good color matched spray paint that will stick to both vinyl and plastic?
Brand and part number would be great, thanks.
I want to repaint the following:
Bucket seat-backs (Plastic).
Door Pull straps (vinyl)
Arm rests (plastic)
Rear Seat arm rest metal filler panel.
Thanks, Miles
In the shot below, I tired an off white paint for the Arm rest, which was not a good match.

I found a diamond white spray bomb at Home Depot a while back but I can't remember what brand it was.
Of all things, I bought it to spray some really old conch and whelk shells that are "showing their age". (I think we got them on a trip to Wrightsville Beach NC around 1963.)

The Pearl Paint is actually a semi-transparent overcoat that goes over a base coat. Parts Place sells it, I'm sure SEM does as other do as well.
Its not quite as easy to do as you would think. I found a very light beige works best. Pearl over white provides a nice sparkle but the white is too white. I start out with a white base, mist a darker color over the white and then spray the pearl on. I use a lot of the pearl

Here is the closest single can solution I have found so far.
Ill try a can of this and see what it looks like.

I was wondering about this as well for my 71 442, which I'll be doing the interior restoration on later this year. I was wondering if Legendary Interiors could offer any assistance with this as they offer the color in their product line. I'll be very interested in your outcome.
If you use the SEM paints, you want the Super White. It has the look of the pearl, and very similar. Not 100% exact, but it works very well. The regular white is too bright. Most of the other paints are a 2-part for that pearl color.
I'm on the same boat, i too need to paint some parts that look a bit off, I'm goin to try to find the SEM,super white and see how that looks, I dont remember which one i used last time but it flaked right off
You have to clean the part really well like with Mr Clean or 409 or something. Then it's best to use a plastic prep cleaner. You need to know what kind of plastic you are dealing with. Some plastics like kick panels you should spray a coat of like Bulldog adhesion promoter. Then you spray the dye over it when it's still tacky. They call it dye, but it's really not...it's paint. That white color is tough to match. My 442 is antique parchment and hard to match. Someone back a few posts said you need a little light and a little dark. It's true, you have to experiment a bit, I don't think anything out of the can is a dead match. Whatever...if it's prepped right it's not going to chip off.
