hubcaps

Hi I've got some 67 hubcaps that need some new center medallions or some one that can restore them. Not having much luck finding any shops. Does anyone have a shop or some one that they used ?

Help us out here! Do you have pics of the hub cap? Are these the style you have on the attached pic? I hunted down one your prior post in your history, by your description these should be it?

If your caps are in otherwise nice shape with faded/clouded centers, you might try looking for individual caps of the same style with nice centers that may be otherwise dinged up and (hopefully) inexpensive. You could then replace your centers. Just a thought.

You might also investigate whether the centers used on similar era caps (like 65-68 wire wheel covers) are the same as those used on your style. Could widen the field if so. Alternative is to keep looking...may take a while. Centers that have decent rocket emblems but that are dull may be able to be polished.

ON EDIT: These style caps from 65 and 66 MAY also use the same centers (can't say for sure, but perhaps worth investigating):

Not sure if this style is what you are looking for, but I remember seeing some on CL a few days ago, so I searched and they are still there. They look to be in pretty good shape. I think they are P01's.

Thanks I've been watching those in eBay. Unfortunately those aren't the same as the ones you have pictured. But thanks again.

They are the same, but the condition they're in isn't the same. The emblems are faded and they're dinged up. I've got ones that are in a little worse shape than those on the car now. Hoping to find ones that are in alot better condition.

I have a set with only 20 or so miles on them. They came off a '67 442 that my mom bought new. She drove the car across town the day she bought it and purchased a set of Magnum 500s. If interested PM me.

The condition of the ones currently on eBay look poor to me as well. Too many dents for price. Maybe the guy will negotiate with you.
If I remember correctly, the ones for sale last year on eBay were NOS.

I do have a set of 4 used ones available that are hanging from the rafters of my shed. I could sell them to you for $20 each, but if I remember correctly they probably aren't in any better condition that yours, and I'm sure shipping from Canada would be a bitch!

I used them a couple times in the past, though not recently. Not sure the cap you want in in stock based on the "call for availability" bit, but they may be worth a call.

Good luck.

The picture you show look a lot like them if my memory is right. I will be at the shop on Sunday, so I will get some pictures then.

Hey Jaybird. The story is so very true. The Magnum's she drove across town for are below. As I am told, her uncle was a mechanic at Royal Olds in Birmingham, Al. When she bought the car he told her that the Olds SS1 wheels were junk, do not buy them and convinced her to go across town to get the Magnums.

The cool part is that she taught at the high school I graduated from when she bought the car. The school has a big wall out front with a picture of a bald eagle in front of the American Flag. One of her annuals has a picture of her 442 in front of the eagle. Now the car is mine . Once I am done with the restoration I plan on driving it to the school and reproduce the same picture.

Ok, I'll leave that one alone.

SSI's might be nice but they won't fit a full sized '67 Olds with a 5 x 5 bolt pattern.

Yea, I believe these are 5x4-3/4". I have no idea what size rim the hub caps came off of. Will do pics Sunday evening or Monday.

Ok. The too good to be true story is about to change a little. After all it did start 45yrs ago. I quizzed my mom. The 20 miles is partially true. She did not get the Magnum's until about 3wks after she bought the car. She drove 20miles immediately after buying the car and ordered them. So....

For some reason I can only upload one picture at a time, so the string is about to get a little longer.

These were stored in a box, so the bottom on was sitting in a little water from a garage leak. Some rust around the edges on the backside. Not too bad though.

2 of the 4 look like they have rubbed against a curb.

Last one.. I think. For the most part they are in good shape. Other than the curb marks, they are in good condition.

hippy72, I just noticed the tire size on the 1967 Olds 98 I just bought are 14". I thought for sure they'd be 15's but I'm wrong. Jeff's hubcaps would have come off a 14 inch wheel so if your full sized car is the same as mine they should fit fine.

On a slightly different note, if hippy72 passes on these hubcaps I'd like to be next in line Jeff.
