Has anyone done their Olds 442 in real leather?

I’ve got a 1970 Oldsmobile 442. I know, original was vinyl. I would love to do the interior same identical design but all in leather. Has anyone on here had experience with this? My upholstery shop says he can do it but the grains won’t match up. Does anyone know of a real leather kit? Any information would be greatly appreciated! By the way the color is pearl

I doubt there is anybody making a real leather ready to install kit. Pretty sure this will have to be custom made and the grain will not match since the leather grain is a product of nature and not man made.

From what I have seen in aged interiors, vinyl is more durable than real leather.
Save your money.

A car with leather interior must be stored out of sunlight for good longevity. Think how good those old saddles look that have been sitting in the dark tack room for ages.

The factory leather interior in my 1970 Corvette still looks perfect (only 30,000 miles is a bit of help). It is stored in the dark, too.

There are no kits available, but I know of a car that has leather seats in a factory pattern. You would need to go to a good interior person to have them made.

I agree that properly cared for leather can have durability.
Applying leather conditioner or "saddle soap", keep it out of the sun, etc.
But few people really do that.
Vinyl requires almost no care at all.

Ultraleather is used in aircraft, yachts and expensive RV's. It's synthetic, looks/feels like leather is durable and unlike leather the grain is repeatable. Just another option.

Good luck!!!

Agreed, These days it’s a much more practical and more affordable option with better longevity.
