Floor insulation

I bought some sound deadner for the floor from NPD and it is Asphalt based. I am also putting some dynamat over the top then the new carpeting. Has anybody just used the asphalt?

The factory used just the asphalt based chunks, then carpet and jute on top...

What kind of dynamat are you planning to install? The heavy sticky rubber stuff or the lighter foam stuff?

I guess that was the question what to use. I think I am going to go ahead and use the asphalt then put the dynalite material over that in the front area. The new carpeting has the juke so probably good enough for the back seat area. I am running headers so I want to disipate as much heat as possible and noise.

I'm gonna let Rob chime in cause he's the dynalite expert, but I think I would put it down first then [if necessary ] go with the tar paper kinda stuff. I'm not usre you're gonna need the factory insulation.

Since you have a good reason to insulate from heat from the headers, i would suggest going the route I took, but just from the upper firewall to the front seats. I POR15ed the floor, used dynamat extreme (dense rubber with aluminum top) directly to the floor, then the 1/4" dynaliner on top. Some cheap 3/8" jute was also used int he front floorpans, mainly to make the carpet sit right...
The extreme helps most with vibration and noise (and some heat) while the dynaliner helps most with heat.
This stuff is expensive so thats why you would end at the front seats.
The stuff you got already can be used in the rear section. It is mostly used to dampen vibration. You may need some more generic cheap jute pad to make your carpet sit flat (since the dynamat in front will lift it some.)
There are some other decent brands that cost less.
I have a thread here (dynamat - worth it or a waste?) that discusses it more.
Also see my "interior makeover" thread that shows the dynamatting process.
Hope this helps!

Jamesbo, I still have one small piece of extreme with your name on it...

Interior floor insulation

I ended up dumping the asphalt type sound deadning and going with Quality shield from NPD. About 2 rolls to do the floor with some left over for other work. Aluminum side down toward the heat. about $25 per roll. Very easy to work with compared too the Dynamat.
