Dash/interior updates

Thought i would share my progress on this interior project plus has some question

- took the steering wheel off. Theres a metal plate with three screws -- once i took that off i cant figure out how to take the next plate off to gain access to the turn signal switch- would appreciate some insight

- i have an emergency brake assemble (repop) for a chevelle. Looks like it will work but there is no spot for the switch like on the original. Does any repop the olds part? or a a part that accommodates the switch?

- I took the dash apart so long ago i cant remember if i took the dash out with the gauges installed or separate. Would like some guidance on reassembling the the dash that works well. My plan is to assemble the dash with wiring harness attached and bolt that in as one unit.

- My original wiring harness has an extra section-- anyone know what thsi is for? see pic

- also if anyone has a tip to getting thsi POR15 stuff off my hands let me know--hahaha

Thanks again the help on here has been great!!

There is a 'U' shaped tool that attaches to the steering shaft and then has a centre screw down that presses on the metal plate with the 'U' part so that you may remove the circlip from the steering shaft thus releasing the metal plate...Lyle tools.

Looks like this:

That "extra" piece of harness looks like the under dash courtesy lights (at least the two bigger ones). They snap into holes in the metal frame of the underpart of the dash. The pic blurs too much when I enlarge it to see what the smaller lamp might be for.

The round plug with the three prongs is for the drivers side door jamb switch.

You are right, and the passenger one is on the opposite end. Once you said that it was easy to see.

OK we are making progress. I took the steering wheel lock plate off with the special tool ( got it at autozone) and now i'm replacing the turn signal switch and already replaced the ignition cylinder. I painted the dash with sem plastic paint. ( used rustoleum on the metal dash frame. Also took the door panels off, added the rain shields and added the chrome arm rest bases and under dash insulations. Thanks for the guidance on the tool!

Still need to figure out if i should try an restore the sport wheel or replace it with a more common simulated wood wheel.

The extra wire harness section is for the courtesy lights-- you guys were correct.

Spoke with M&H electric today--there doesn't appear to be a harness they make for a manual console ( they make it for the auto)-- i also think it comes in two parts (an extension section and the console harness itself) - will see if someone has these in the parts wanted.

I do have a question about how to adhere the metal backed repop wood grain to the freshly painted plastic dash-- please let me know if you know what works best from experience.

'68 &'69 manual floor shift consoles were not equipped with a harness and that is why the rear courtesy light is painted over with matching interior colours. Did not have a light inside box either so no wiring was necessary. However, I did find a light switch for the rear of the console box in a '65 or '66 if you are thinking of putting lights in.

wow - i didn't know that --just assumed there would be a light in that rear housing, i even purchased a lens cover for it and was also thinking there would be a light in the arm rest glove box.

Will let you know about the switch

Thanks!

One comment about the POR15 paint. It has to wear off, that is about the most durable paint I have ever used, good for the part, bad for the hands.
