Dash Brake Light Switch

Hi guys. I have a question about the switch on the dashon a 58 Super 88. Why does the **** turn? Does it do something?

Which ****? the light switch will increase or decrease interior dash illumination if turned is that what you are referring to? ...Tedd

The Brake **** on the right rotates. Is there a reason?
