convertible top 1964 Dynamic 88

I'm thinking this belongs in the "upholstery" forum, since interior shops typically do tops... I've been installing a new top on my 1964 Dynamic 88. I've never done this before, and I planned to do a whole tutorial/youtube video, but this is so far outside my skill set, it's learning by doing with this. I just wanted to share a couple quick pictures since I'm getting close to the last steps...

This is your typical 2 piece top, where the rear window piece is called the "curtain" and the rest of the top fits over it. Getting the curtain right is the first most important step. Between the rear bow and the tack strip at the body, you have to get it to stretch and be wrinkle free. The process amounts to making your best 1st guess, test fit, adjust, test fit again, adjust again, over and over until you get it where you like it.

I finally have it pretty much where I like it, so I'm sharing some pictures... the rest of the top comes next...

I know the "sail panels" are still wrinkled, I'm not done yet

Back window looks good, but there's still work to do on the rest of the top

It's done, and it came out pretty good I think. Would I suggest doing this yourself like I did? I'm not sure- It was really hard to get it right. I'm glad I took on the project, but I can see why it costs so much to have it done, and why there's only a few shops that do it.

I love the white top, better than the black top I think

You're supposed to leave the top up for a few days, so it stretches as I understand it

It's not perfect, but I wonder if they ever are?

Hey! awesome job on finishing the project! Installing a convertible top is really a tough task so hats off to you for taking it on. Sometimes, doing it yourself is worth it for the learning experience, but I totally get why pro services cost a pretty penny – it takes skill and precision. From my experience if you have the patience and want to learn why not give it a shot! Just keep in mind that if something goes wrong it can be frustratingIt’s great you took the risk; it can be really satisfying!
