I presume you're not talking about taking the top off the car to dye it. To me, that would such a pain the *** that I'd keep the top white. So this means that you're basically going to be applying the dye with some kind of applicator, like a paintbrush or dampened cloth. I would think that as long as you were careful to get the dye into all the nooks and crannies so that the top is completely dyed, you'd be fine.
On the other hand, if you ARE talking about removing the top to dye it, maybe it would be better to just get a new, black top. Sort of depends on the age and condition of your current top.
