72 Cutlass non-floor shifter console conversion complete!

carried over from https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...ml#post1016172

Finished installing my refurbished console earlier tonight and thought a couple of pics might be of interest.

H&H did a nice job on the solid top bezel, arrived with woodgrain already applied and ready install.

not really difficult - started with a clean, damage-free green core and after disassembling everything, scrubbed and dried the body and door thoroughly.

masked off the chrome sprayed 2-3 coats of good plastic-bonding primer, 3-4 coats of good metallic black color. and finally 2-3 coats of good clearcoat finish. Painted the lid while separated from console body

All Rustoleum spray can products, start to finish done over a weekend.

Reassembled the body after all fully dried/cured, including a new lock which was keyed to match the glove box and trunk locks. Secured the new top plate last, after the body was fully installed and secured to the floor hump.

It's just different enough that it'll maybe cause some head scratching at the local cruise nights

Nice!!!

Question for you. The gauges installed above the console - is that custom?

That's very ingenious, much nicer than an empty space between the seats. Great job.
SEM Color Coatings is an option for respraying the console in one step after it has been cleaned.

Yes the cluster came from another board member whom makes them to order (link provided in a prior post). definitely a well-integrated systems monitoring platform.

Now if it were a column shifted manual, that would really be confusing.

wood grain provider?

so who is H&H that did the wood grain insert? I may just follow your lead on this with a few mods of my own!
