72 442 4 speed shifter boot trim rattle

I went to great measures to have a quiet interior, but the hurst sifter rattles against the chrome trim ring at the top of the console boot. It's driving me crazy. I bought the conversion assembly when I went from auto to 4 speed console. Is there supposed to be a rubber isolator between handle and trim?

yes but a small piece of electrical tape will work below the chrome line. Lee

I thought of electrical tape but didn't want to be the first to bring it up.

my Rallye 350 did that also. i fixed it by taking the 4 speed setup out and installing an automatic, lol. i always see paper jambed in there but the tape is much nicer.

A thick rubberband under the tape will last longer.
Couple of washers will angle the shifter over, for a forever fix!

There is a certain person that owns a 1971 w-30 convt. 4 speed along with a 1970 w-30 convt 4 speed. He is using the tape option on his beater 1971. The person will go unnamed but his handle is leepear.

They also make some pretty wide rubber heat shrink tubing, it is also pretty thick, I have to beileve that would look more "factory" than tape. Just a thought. they sell it at home depot I believe to 1" here is a 3/4 inch version it's 1.99

I love the shrink tubing idea! I've already got some that's that diameter. Thanks.
