70 console

70 console
Is a 70 cutlass console for a 4 speed the same as a automatic, just the 4 speed boot cover on top? There is one on eBay. It looks like I could take that part off and it would be an auto console.

you can take a standard auto shift console and convert it to a manual console but you can't use a dual gate console to make one. also can't go from a 4 speed console and go back to auto because of the big hole that is cut in it.

I have a 1970 Auto console I'm selling out of my 1970 442 clone.
It's in great condition. Email if you're interested and make a reasonable offer Nastyz28@gmail.com
I'm not on this forum that much, and I'm selling it because I put a 6 speed manual in my car.
I just put a new chrome bezel in it, wood grain insert, gear selector, and blue shade into it in 2009.

ALL of the consoles came out of the same mold, and ALL of the consoles started out as black plastic. The regular automatic applications did not get any modififactions to them, but the 4-spd and dual-gate applications each had areas that were cut out. This was usually done rather crudely,as this was on a production line, and they weren't making show cars back then.If the interior color was something other than black, the console was sprayed to match.
ACE,
Is there a reason why you can't mount a console with your 6-spd?I just did one for a Richmond 5-spd,which places the shifter farther back, and I just cut the boot adapter opening farther back on the console.I used a dual-gate front top plate for the front, and a shortened 4-spd rear top plate for the back.Unless you put an original next to it,you don't notice the setback. You do need to start with a regular automatic console, which I think is what you currently have.

I want something I can custom tailor make to my own desires.
