69 AM/FM radio in a 70

Hey all. i managed to get myself a 1970 442 in need of some minor restoration work lots of things were mickey moused together. but anyways i met a gu who has a 69 AM/FM radio with A-Track player and was wondering if that would fit in my car or if the radios were redesigned. right now its an empty hole that needs to be filled.

I don't think the a track was available in 69...
I do belive you could get the AM/FM radio in
stereo. And if you wanted eight track, it was
mounted with it's own housing under the dash.
From the factory of course. Welcome to CO.

In '69, you could get an AM or AM-FM radio and either of those with a rear speaker option. You could also order an AM-FM stereo and it came with the rear speaker option. The 8-track player was an option in '69. If your '69 came with the 8-track, it also had to have a rear speaker with whatever radio was ordered.

The difference in radio appearance between '68 and '69 was the dials and the wood grain feature (wood grain not on the '68). I understand the wood grain feature for '70 is very similar to that of '69 and that the radio appearance is also very similar. The dials for '70 are definitely different than '69. I do believe a '69 radio will fit in the '70 dash.

The stereo tape player was option U57. It included a rear speaker. The tape player required U63 or U69.
U63 - Radio deluxe; pushbutton - 69.51
U69 - Radio AM FM - 133.76

Rear speaker option for just the radios was code U80 - rear speaker - 16.86

If you're interested in the tape player, check out one of our members W70442 (Randy). He sells complete 8 track setups and also makes cases that look stock for aftermarket products like modern AM/FM CD and gages. Scroll though this thread - it's impressive. (the first part was a promo he was trying to sell close to Christmas) https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...-housings.html

hey thanks for the info he only wanted $50 for the radio and the player so more then worth it to pick up and give it a try. i was looking at aftermarket radios you can get those usa-1 radios that look pretty good and can hook up an ipod to em. thats another option.

Hey, I see you're in Calgary! Did ya go to the Stampede this year?

Were you aware there's an ALL OLDS show coming up this Saturday (July 21) at OLDS AB? Go down mainstreet to Hildebrandt Motors. If you want to register for the show, it's not too late. Contact Ken Pilidis; president at www.oldsclub.ca or you can do what I have to do this year. My car isn't ready for the road right now so I'm just gonna show up. Been there in the past and it's a great time. Ken says there will prolly be somewhere around 70 cars from lots of different years. Maybe I'll see ya there?
