68 Convertible speaker suggestions
#2
I'm not sure of a 68 but in a 69, there's not a good place if you want it to look origional.
IMHO
convertibles + wind noise = lousey sound system
Buy some loud mufflers and enjoy the sound insted

I'm an audiophile at home, and have been asking myself the same question. I'm not about to cut holes in the door panels - so that is out. The single dash speaker will have to suffice unless someone has a brilliant idea that involves keeping the aesthetics of the car. And, as Jamesbo points out, most of our cars are "throaty" and would overpower the sound system output.
With that said it will be interesting to see some suggestions.

Bluevista - is that a pic of a kickpanel in your car? If so, how does it sound? Now that is a setup I might be able to swallow; can always swap back in the originals if necessary.

Not an Olds of course but basically the same deal in that area.
I need to get some semi-gloss clear on those kick panels, way too shiny.
I have Infinity speakers with direction adjustable tweeters and it sounds good but is lacking in real deep bass. You could go with way more power with an amp.
My car is noisy and I can hear it okay but it isn't super loud.
I don't know the wattages right now but it's not real high power.
I have a Pioneer head unit in the glove compartment mounted in an underdash type universal case. I put a wired marine remote in the ashtray so it's all hidden except for the speakers and no messing with the glove box door all the time. There is another remote with a display I should have used, it can be a pain tuning the radio but I mostly listen to CD's so no big deal.
The installation is around five years old, the MP3 player input is the hot set-up now.
I was thinking about one of those powered sub-woofers that fits under the passenger seat but never got around to it or could afford it after I got the wagon.
The Vista Cruiser has mucho places for speakers and amps.

If you use just two speakers, you can put them in the factory location. The dash position is obvious. The other position is behind the upper piece of the back seat, on the passenger side. There is a cut out and holes already in that panel for a 6X9 speaker. It works great when the top is up but, when the top is down, you can't hear anything out of that speaker at all. That's just the way they did it.
