1973 Olds 98 Regency Interior Refurbish

I inherited a '73 98 that is in very good condition that I am looking to refurbish the interior. There are no rips in the seats anywhere but the tufting on the seats has loosened and the color has faded slightly. Do I just clean the seats, or should I try to have someone re-dye them? Can the tufting be repaired?

Also, the three-spoke steering wheel is in good condition but the wood grain finish is flaking off in places. Any ideas to repair (or replace) that?

I think the tufting can only be 'tightened' by actually removing the upholstery. You do mean the buttons that cause the material to have texture correct? Moved thread for more exposure.

Hi Dan -

Thanks for the comments. The buttons in the upholstery are flush with the fabric and don't have depth. I am trying to determine if the threads are loose or the foam in the seating has settled and gone flat from age and use. I am planning on taking it to an auto upholstery shop, but I wanted to get some perspectives here before I went in and had them look at it.

Thanks again.

Richard
