1972 Cutlass Supreme Automatic Shifter

By chance could someone tell me will this shifter would work in my 1972 Cutlass Supreme Automatic with the console? I've been seeing a few different shifters out there and I just want to be sure this one would work. Thanks in advance!

Hi Travis
No it won't. That's for a manual transmission. I think I've got a picture of the one you need, if I can come up with it I'll post it for you. John

Hi Travis
I'm not positive this is from a 1970-72, so the steel base may or may not be the correct shape. But the chrome shifter is for sure the right one. They had a plastic ball on top with a wood grain design inside it.

So do you have a console but need a shifter? If so, I'd encourage you to create a parts wanted thread. I'm sure there's several members here who have spare parts and may be able to help you out. John

You got that manual shifter pic off eBay (I have the same pic). The guy is/was selling it as a 70-72, but it is a 66-69 IIRC.

Hey dude,2blu442 has the correct auto shifter.Do you have a factory console? The factory shifter works awesome, even for racing.I've retro fitted a "B&M" shifter into my factory console without cutting anything up.I'ts a strait shifter, where the factory shifter has a slight bend to it.[as seen in the pictures above]I don't bellive in,"I-CANT"so ...But if you hold that shifter in the car,i think you'll see, that it's gonna basicially be in the back seat. That's gonna be after you cut the shift handel from the 4-speed linkage, that it has now. Some times man, your better off to save the money up to do a project right,IMHO.Don't be discouraged, thats the main thing .This is a great hobby, but we all learn as we go.So good luck to you my friend, later,BO

Are you asking about the manual transmission shifter or the automatic one I posted pictures of? Rather than tag onto an old thread you would likely get a better response if you sent a private message or email to the person your wanting to ask the question to. John

2blu442, it was a shot in the dark, being that this post was so old, but I'm assuming you have the part since you spoke up so I will send you a message personally.

lj theres some 68-69 shifters on ebay, I know the 70 shifter body is the same as your 72 but has the different pin pressed in for the NSS find the number on the body of your shifter and see if it matches any of the ones on ebay (ask the seller)
