1972 cutlass interior
i have bench seat in my cutlass and want to convert it to bucket seats i have the console, buckets, need to buy a column. How can i restore the console year one offers dyes that i can use also how can i get the cheapest way to restore the buckets as i will sandblast them myself and try to put the covers on myself too

I have never restored a Cutlass console so I will be a little weak on the details...
First disassemble completely removing all trim and hardware. I always take pictures before hand so I can put it back together correctly months later (time flies)
Take all of the hard plastic parts that need to change color and spray with EZ-Off oven cleaner. Use the original type not the "safe" version. Allow it to soak for at least 15 minutes (but not dry) then power wash off. This will remove all of the grease and oils. If you leave it on long enough it will even remove old paints and coatings but wont hurt the plastic substrate.
Anything that is vinyl or soft plastic I would prep with alcohol. You don't want to get the EZ-Off into any foams.
Spray a thin film of SEM plastic prep. While it is still wet, dust with a light coating of the SEM dye that you are using. Once this is dry, a couple light coats of the dye and you are ready to go. The SEM can and website have detailed info on the application.
I prefer SEM as I have used it on 2 consoles and 4 dashes and never had a problem. No experience with other brands.
