1972 Bucket seat & leg room

Hello All,

Does anyone know of a way to make the bucket seats in my 72 Cutlass go back more ? I have the driver seat all the way back and I still don't have enough room. I'm about 6' 3" and need the extra room, I'm sure other Cutlass drivers must notice the lack of space. Maybe someone knows of a way to modify the bracket without hurting the carpet or the seat.

Any help would be great,

seat adjustment

I did mine this way. I went back 3inches. I drilled and put threads in 4 of the holes to keep the bolts from turning while being installed. I tore my console out too. The cabins in the Abody are just too confined

On Ebay I saw a place selling a bracket to extend, I thought it was Chicago Muscle Car Works but I couldn't find it again, maybe call them.

That's the same thing I had to do to get 68 Toro seats to fit in my 72 CS

That lack of legroom is the biggest reason I don't like the 68-72 A-body cars that much. The 73-77 aren't a whole lot better. They are simply not comfortable for tall people (I'm 6'3") to drive.

Thanks for the tips/ideas, even when I bought the car six years ago I knew there wasn't enough room but I loved the car anyway and had to have it, I
Just had it out today for the first drive this spring and I need to get that seat moved ASAP

I did this to my 72 convertible last month. I'm only 5'11'' but it still felt like i was on the steering wheel. It was a good thing i was doing my interior over so I had my bucket seat brackets moved back

I saw an NBA guys car. They welded in the factory style brackets. The shell on the back of the bucket seat was almost touching the back seat when it was way back. I could not touch the pedals at all
Nothing beats being comfortable when motoring in your Olds car

Buy a Vista cruiser instead of the 2 door and move the seat back. There's still lots of room for the rear passenger too. I'm 6'5 and my 67 didn't have enough room so I pulled the power seat tracks out of a full sized car, stuck them under the bench and now I have all the room I need. There's enough room for the whole family.

I think I'm going to try the bracket extension, not sure if I will like the look as my car is completely original, maybe a different seat track from something else would work and still keep the factory look ?

The brackets are easily hidden under a floor mat from the front. When you park your car adjust the drivers side ahead to match the stock passenger side profile. Most people will never know

Also the brackets are easily switched back to stock. No permanent mod needed

Thanks everyone, I think I'm going to try some brackets, I had a look at mine & it seems the carpet should cover them, if I like the results I will do the passenger side to match

Gotta agree with the tall guys here. I am experiencing the same issues at 6-3 and was really surprised at how small the cabins were when the cars themselves are anything but.
