I have researched the correct seat foam for days now and I grow more confused daily. What is the correct seat foam style? Full with no splits? DIfferent vendors have conflicting information. Has anyone had good luck with a particular vendor? My car is a 1970 442 Convertible. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I have also found the ACI foams to be the best in quality and comfort. Some vendors sell foams they say fit multiple years but you may have to adjust the length of the “slots” as you call them for your year application. Some even sell the foams with no slots and you have to make the slots for your year so the seat cover listing rod for that tuck will fit correctly in that slot.
Joe - What I am saying is ACI doesn't make the foams sold by Thornton. I believe they found and use a different manufacturer. Their foams are top quality IMO, fit well, covers go over them nicely, etc.

You wouldn't happen to know if that vendor is exclusive to Thorntons?
I am guessing they sell these. Described as the same manufacturer that made foams for GM. These are what I used on my last set of seats and they worked very well. https://www.ebay.com/itm/12422970134....c101506.m1851
Compared to pics from Thornton's website:
$173 per pair with free shipping on ebay
$89 per seat plus shipping from Thornton.
From what I recall from our conversation, the supplier to Thornton is the original supplier to GM for these cars and I seem to also remember that they were PA locals. From my experience, Troy has been a pleasure to work with and I appreciate his enthusiasm and quality of product, so I don’t mind supporting his business. That coupled with endorsement from Patton is the basis of my decision. (Only a suggestion,…because you asked.)
So I have a set of foam from ACI for my 1970 Cutlass Supreme that I purchased through Legendary, and it they don't have any slots at all in it. Is this correct?
Thornton has offered discounts during holidays in the past with Christmas being the best. Legendary also offers sales during holidays. Just some food for thought if you don’t necessarily need it tomorrow.😃
70 should have half slots like the ones in post #13 (notice the "half" listing ribs in Alain's seats in post #12). 71-72 have no slots.
Not all the '70 Olds covers use/used slotted foams. I'm thinking convert seat covers and Supremes didn't/don't have the need for the "pull through" slots. Maybe others as well but I haven't studied it closely.
You can go to Thornton's website and see the breakdown on there. IMO it's accurate.

Good catch. Correct, the Supreme (including all 442 convertibles) used the 71-72 foam as well.
Just to clarify, we are making our own seat foams, with our tooling, made In Philadelphia, PA at the original manufacturer of the seat foams. We own the tooling so the seat foams are exclusive to us. The Motor Company in Bangor, PA is selling these seat foams.
If you have any questions about which ones are correct for your car feel free to call us at 610-282-2494, Troy is always happy to help.
Thank you!
