any tips, prior to me prying on brittle plastic stuff, on removing the center panel in the dash that goes around most everything in the dash. thanx.

 

Be careful because it it very brittle as you said. Take out the front seat/s so you can lay on your back to do it. Remove anything in the way of your seeing all the screws. Mark the harness plugs/wires with masking tape and write where they go. Bag everything and label it. There is one screw at the top middle that is just pressed into a tension type fitting. It was probably to hold the panel in place to keep it from falling while they screwed all the rest. Not really sure. Save any pieces that might break off, you can epoxy them back in place. Disconnect the entire wiring harness from the dash, thats what I did, others may do it different. If i remember right there is one harness strap at the top above the gauges you need to remove. you will see it when the dash is out a ways.

remove the radio first, also unbolt the heater/ac controls so they stay in the car, when it comes to the plug at the printed circuit be very careful the pins on the printed circuit break off very easily.

 

Thanx everyone!!! wow, I had no idea it would be that complicated. guess I am too used to working on newer cars now and expect things to "pop" off. I also thought the bezel would come off from around some or a lot of the stuff. I see now, not the case. may have to save this for another day right now. thanx again!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I recommend removing the stuff noted above, and the wiring connectors at the headlight and washer/wiper switches, etc. Then use an 11/32" deepwell socket and remove the nuts holding the instrument panel assembly and the dash pad to the steel surround that is welded to the body. After removing those parts as an assembly, use a 1/4" socket to separate the instrument panel from the dash pad.

May I suggest you invest in a 1967 Cutlass Assembly Manual? Not expensive and they have exploded views that show exactly what you're looking for to get the dash out.

eBay or google is your friend here. You can get this info from AHPS too, but if you're just using it for the 67 it's cheaper to buy your own.
