whats correct fan and clutch #s for 68 hurst olds ?

 

I know the 68 Hurst was special, but I only have information from GM about the stock parts. If the cooling system was changed at Hurst these numbers may not be right, but here's what I have:

The fan is listed in GM Parts group 1.064 - part number 393996 (5 Blade)
The clutch is listed as Parts group 1.050 - part number 342754

The opinion corner:
My car originally came with a 4 blade fixed fan and lower volume water pump. It has been converted to HD water pump with 6 blade fan/clutch and fan shroud (I also had to change the water pump pulley). Unless you're going for concours points judging, I would go with best available aftermarket clutch - way cheaper than OEM NOS.

 

i guess you have a 68 hurst olds? i just bought one it has a fixed fan and no ac but it hit the shrould and previos owner cut it i thougt all h/o s had aluminum clutch ,fans this car is very original otherwise and was not hit i think org went bad and this was installed

 

A fan clutch would have a six bladed fan attatcherd to it...PN 401372...a seven blade fan PN 393996...'69 Hurst uses PN 406016

 

Don't forget that it's a specially calibrated viscous fan clutch.
Beats me what fan they used on the 455.
Have one vote for a five blade and one for a six blade.
The pic of the engine in the brochure shows a seven blade?

yellow statue are you saying they came w/ 6 and 7 blade fans ?there is a 7 blade fan on right now (didnt check # )but no clutch has spacer maybe thats the problem

Olds should have hired whoever was doing Demmer's advertising in '68.

That's the inside of the 68 H/O sales brochure, I believe.

 

A six or seven bladed fan would have a clutch from the factory...different diameters too, 19 inch and 19 1/2 ?... one with a spacer is probably an after market item the fan in the pic is a seven blade with clutch.

 

Uh guys, why speculate, when you can look it up. Wild About Cars has all the AMA specifications for Oldsmobiles from 1964-72, and there is a specific spec for the 1968 Hurst/Olds at: http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-b...=9950359910638

The specs are: 6 blade; staggered; 18" with clutch. It even gives the reduction ratio for a/c and non a/c cars.
