Rear end noise

hi everyone i have a 1984 hurst-olds ,i have had it for about 4 years .last year i started to notice a noise in the rear end which sounded like heavy truck tires on the back .when i took the car out a few weeks ago it sounded a lot worse after all winter so i took it to a mechanic who told me that the pinion bearing was bad so i had him put in all new bearings including the 2 rear wheel bearings. i picked the car up last night and there is no different in the sound ,i went back to the machanic and we both went for a ride and he heard it as well and he had no idea what it was but said it comming from the rear end .
would any one have any problems like this before

...Back lash is a lil loose in the ring and pinion...
