If you could provide some photos or at least some description along with the asking price, I'm sure many of us, including me, would be than happy to offer our half-baked opinions on what it's worth.

Just as a point of reference, according to the Old Cars Price Guide, the Hurst/Olds option was available on the '75 Cutlass Salon, not the Supreme or the plain Cutlass. In their #4 condition, which means runs and drives but needs full restoration, their average value is $2,300 for the two-door and maybe $100 less for the four-door. These prices are a 75% premium over a comparable non-H/O '75 Cutlass Salon.

In #3 condition ("car show" condition but not showroom condition), the value rises to just over $5,000.

Collector Car Price Review is much more optimistic. Their condition levels are about the same as the OCPG, and they show a #4 condition car at $5,525 while the #3 is valued at $8,625.

Geez, depending on how "all there" it really is, and as long as it's in otherwise decent shape, I don't think $2,000 sounds too bad.

According to this site:

http://www.v8cars.hu/oldsvin/decode.php

that VIN decodes to a '75 Cutlass Supreme with a 455 4-bbl built at Lansing, Michigan. That's a bit in conflict with what the Old Cars Price Guide says as that seems to indicate that the H/O option was available only on the Cutlass Salon. However, it kind of depends on how you read the guide, and I'm guessing that I'm reading it wrong and that the H/O option could have been gotten on a Supreme as well. I'm sure others will know.

You should buy it. You certainly sound like you want to. If you have the money at all, you'll just be kicking yourself if you don't!

Well, there's an old saying that if Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

What, exactly, is her objection, and can you do something about it? Is it cost? Is it lack of storage space for the third car? Is it that you already have two cars that you keep saying you'll work on but haven't, and now you'll have a third one?

I mean, your wife likely will not be convinced because it has T-tops or is numbers-matching. Those will likely be Greek to her just like they're Greek to my wife. So you've got to convince her on the basis of how much this keeps you at home in the garage, where she knows where you are, rather than out at the bars at night. If you have kids, you can argue that it's good father-child bonding or something like that.

This latter argument worked great with my wife back when our kids were young in the early and mid-90s. I took the kids to the car shows with me whenever I went to one. The kids loved it because they got to ride in Dad's car and because I would buy them ice cream or soft drinks or whatever they wanted, and my wife got a Saturday to herself with a peaceful, quiet house, or she was free to go shopping.

Use some psychology!
