good to see you back on John. when Fall gets over this spring I would love to swing over and BS with you and see your car. Talking cars one day my sisters Boy friend said you have a 69 H/O I worked with a guy who had one and He said John I finished with Prest

There was one in Alberta for about 10 years. It sold at an auction in Calgary about 3 years ago (divorce sale I heard). Sold for $50K. Not sure if it is still in the Province or not. I have pics of the car but I am not aware of what # it is.

EDIT...this car is still in Alberta. The new onwers live in Sundre AB & the car was at the 2012 Olds Roundup. Glad to see it is still around.

 

I know where a ROUGH one sits and probably could be purchased. I haven't really checked into what is or isn't there, but for now I'm looking for any MAJOR restoration projects.

 

I am in the NYC area and know of about 5 that are on Long Island, 3 that are within 60 miles of me, and know of at least two in Ct. I know there are several more in upstate NY too.

 

Back in the 80s there were 5 in Omaha NE I think there may be one left now. The one I use to own is in Philly

 

There are three in our car club. The one in Calgary is the one on some book cover about Hurst's. The 69 Hurst in Edmonton is owned by my boss who also owns a 1969 442 W30 4 spd Convertible as well as a 1970 442 W30 Convertible.

On a similar subject,does anyone have an idea as to what the 973 or 989 distributors are worth?I know they were not specific to the HO,but not common either.

The last few Ive seen sell on ebay were over $600 and there is the one over the weekend that didnt meet the reserve at $350 if that helps. Do you need one as I may have a spare?

'69 HURST Olds...

...I live in east central Indiana...mine is a 40K mile survivor

...there were 3 in town in 1969, one was destroyed when new, one disappeared over the years and there is a one owner still in town, I haven't seen it since 1969-1970...no others I am aware of in the area

 

Only one picture ? Daytona you need to start a thread on that lady. Is that a air car ? What other options does it have?

...it was purchased new in Clinton Ia....it came with all the original books, Protect-O Plate etc...lots of original paperwork...never painted, 99.9% original car...I believe I'm the 4th owner

 

Nice car... Note on the last pic being that Daytona mentions it has never been painted..., can't see immediately after the front tire but you can see the lower stripe dip before the rear wheel, looks like it dips slightly before the front wheel as well. Remember that the next time we see any 'freshly' restored 1969 H/O's where the lower stripe is painted straight across.

...mine also has the "trunk repaint" around the key hole where the pinstripe was originally located, then, it was resprayed and the stripe straightened out

I got the H/O from the original owner. It has the original drivetrain. Original glass, sheet metal, and interior except driver's side bucket seat which was redone.

 

The H/O has spent her whole life in Arkansas. Her names is "PEACHES". I have paperwork where original owner traded their car for the H/O along with cancelled checks where they made the payments on "PEACHES".

Note the top stripe showing fade. A very common sight for these cars. Paint was put on so thin you could almost see through it. Funny thing too, many times the paint etched its way into the surface of the metal and surface rust would be found only in the gold stripe area.

And although many of the 69 H/O's had that dip in the bottom paint lines, some did not. They were all masked by hand and there are some interesting possiblities in variances I've seen on original stripes over the years even from one side to the other on the same car.

As for the distributors, AFAIK, the 973 was specific to the 69 H/O. I can't find any other usage for that p/n, unless I missed something somewhere. They use monster huge mech weights from a Camaro COPO or something like that, a special advance can later found on some 70 442s, rotor shaft and a few other specific parts.

 

Thanks 69ho43 im going to take some pics of my car and start a stripe thread. My car on the front fender they missed a 1/4 to 3/8 of the white as the trim turns down from the front of the fender.

That pic was from the Hurst/Olds Nationals at Indy, the H/OCA usually returns to Indy every 5 years and we get to drive on the track after the Saturday show. The requirement would be being a member of the club and registering for the National Meet, this year the meet is in Hershey, PA.
