I just took the Firefrost gold paint formula to the paint store and asked them to make some vinyl dye. Worked great. If it's still any good, I'll give it to ya.

I don't believe they used anything special originally. When I restored my car 25+ years ago, the headrest stripes were almost gone already, except for the underside under the plastic cover where they never saw any sun/etc and looked like new. I took those covers off and a can of generic gold spray paint from the hardware store matched it exactly.

The headrests did NOT match the exterior gold stripes (I had original exterior paint in the door jambs to compare to and also used the factory lacquer formula to repaint the exterior gold at the time).

I was once told the headrest gold was a chevy 350 engine block color. Never seen any confirmation of that, though.

SEM to me is some very good stuff, can be used on alot of materials including carpets. I redone my 66 Olds Delta 88 interior which was green and is now Satin Black, looks so original and great.
