Restored the '69 about 13 years ago, my friend had a class 3 frame mounted trailer hitch on his '69 Cutlass he gave me. I wanted to tow utility trailer to swap meets full of parts to sell and display H/O. Then finally was able to buy this '68 150 miles away and put equalizer hitch on car for some video and photo shoots. With 380 hp and 500 lbs. of torque, air shocks, no problem pulling trailer.
I don't want these cars sitting in the garage, I have 200-4R overdrives for both, just drove 565 miles this weekend with the '69 and got 14 mpg with the 3.91 gears. Here's photo of the engine already built for the '68, it was raced in Colorado with the tri carb set up. Custom made air intake. The original 455 was long gone with the "D" heads and I had these heads sitting on the shelf. Headers came with the car.
Right on. Good for you. I love cars that were built to actually be driven actually Get Driven. Love it. I didn't have the cash for a 68 Hurst Olds freshly painted when I was 19. Two extra Hurst Olds carbs. Extra trans etc etc. I think it was 1500 or 2500. I still have the newspaper ad somewhere. 68 Hurst Olds is my favorite Olds.
I assume you know I am in Colorado. Where did that car run? In the eighties I remember a 69 Hurst Olds running at Bandimere sometimes.
Sorry took a re-read. Your 68 was raced in Colorado? I don't remember seeing a 68 Hurst Olds racing at Bandimere.

The car was sold new at Vidmar-Mathis (Oldsmobile?) in Pueblo, CO shipped from Demmer on June 7, 1968, Demmer #144. I have no record of the original owner or subsequent owners other than it was purchased by David Woolsey on 4/02/1985, his address was Canon City (west of Pueblo), CO. He sold it to Anson John in Albuquerque, NM on 10/25/1987 for $4500. It had a blown 400 cu. in. "B" heads tri carb engine at the time. David Woolsey may have been the one racing it as he licensed and insured it for 2 years, It was probably raced at Pueblo Motorsports Park. I still have his license plate. I bought it from Anson John for $7000 plus $2000 for the 400 engine/tri carbs. And it still had the 5 original wheels and trim rings in excellent condition!
Vidmar-Mathis makes perfect sense. They were The southern Colorado Oldsmobile dealer back then. Their tag used to be very common out here. Especially down around Pueblo Canon City/Colorado Springs. Pueblo and Denver are not really close like neighbors. That is a good hour and a half south of Denver. Pueblo has always had a track. It has been around forever. My brother just ran there a month or two ago actually.
PS: The Dealer Tag on a 68 Hurst Olds is beyond awesome. That is kick *** right there.
