new guy wiyh just purchased 83 Hurst

Like the title says...i'm from just north of Houston and just
.purchased an 83 Hurst with 25,100 original miles..Production # 1812...It's beautiful..Has on awesome option sheet ,including Power Astroroof and vinyl maple interior,,Limited slip rear end,Um6 stereo and much, much more..The car has sat for a long time,,although it seems to run good ..It still has the origanal 31 yr old Goodyears on it. When i say sat long time ,,i mean long ..It has not been registered since 1988. Car coming with all documents and manuals it came with when new..including option sheet.
Hood and trunk have some of the crow footing going on ,,but ,paint on sides is perfect..Interior,is perfect ,trunk and floor pans -perfect
The bad thing is i have yet to see or touch itwith my own hands or eyes. But have a ton of pics... I bought it from a guy in New Jersey...
I did pay a automotive appraisal/consulting firm check the car out for me before purchasing .
I got a ton of questions ,,but i'll keep doing searches and reading...Been lurking here for about a week now checking things out.
The transport is picking the car upMonday and bringing it to me ...An enclosed transport ,of course

Will ask a couple questions noe\w though.
When car gets here ,first thing is to change all fluids.
What is the best weight oil to use ?
What type and kind of tranny fluid, coolant, brake fluid ,rear end gear oil ?

Thanks,,looking fwd to hanging around

Erik

Oh,yes it has !! It's in work rt now...Runs well ,,put new wiers .plugs, cap and rotor,,all breather filters and brake filter...All OE or NOS GM,AC Delco parts...The car is origanal as is it gets..and will stay that way...Except the tires,,went with Cooper Cobra's
Needs a headliner...Doing front brakes and bearings this week..Again ,,al AC Delo OE parts.Delco trans filter and gasket should be here this week as well.

It has already passed Texas state inspection and been titled and registered with classic plates....

A couple more weeks and it should be ready for regular driving.

Thanks for asking,
Erik

Oh Noooo! that was your 1st mistake!

Glad the car was everything it was made out to be, no special fluids for this car just good quality stuff as any other car. Love the vinyl seat option, they are scarce. Enjoy that fine machine!

Thanks ,,would of rather found one in Texas ,,would have saved me a ton of cash in transport fees..but...this car is worth it.

Here's some pics,,..I did start an album with some more ,,will keep it updated as work progresses...
The headliner is shot ,,and has been removed...Already aquired a NOS real ,not repo, hood scoop....

Thanks all !!

1/2 vinyl roof

Congrats on your purchase.

I have never seen a vinyl roof treatment an 83HO before. Is this a factory option, dealer add on or aftermarket?

It was not available from the factory on the Hurst W-40 package...My best guess is it was dealer installed ..It's in excellent condition....but...Have not been able to track down original owner to ask where exactly it came from..Have his name and town ,but can't track him down...
So,,,it will most likely come off when it's paint time

There was a thread on the subject not too long ago.. here or on the G-Body forums. I think the consensus was that it was a dealer add-on option.

yup !! This car when it was for sale started quite a shitstorm on some other forums and facebook...I dont do facebook ,,so i didn't see it until i found the thread on Gbody..I would have bought it anyway...The appraisal/consulting firm had no doubt it was a 25000 mile car...It did do too much sitting outside some time in it's life but,,it's a great ,solid car....Still has all the little white papar part # tags on all the brake lines, coil springs underneath ,,as well as on the motor ,fuel lines ,vacuum lines ,,and most are still readable !!
I also had some people here in Houston look at it and agreed..If it wasn't for the roof and body moldings on the side ( which are also a dealer add-on) this car would be just like the day,,2/9/83 it rolled off the factory floor.

But ,,like i said ,,it will most likely come off at paint time

nice looking HO. would share the approximate cost to ship from NJ to TX ?

do you know is there a way to id the 83 HO by the VIN or body tag ie how can I tell a cutlass w HO parts VS a real HO ?

Don't mind at all...it's something that has to be considered when buying from out of town...Is the car worth it or.... is it worth it to you...I paid $1370 to have it trucked down in an enclosed hauler...open hauler is cheaper by several hundred (4-5) ,but i wanted it enclosed.

A genuine Hurst will have a 9 for the 8th digit of the VIN...And on the body tag ,,up on te cowl ,,it will show W-40

I have been waiting to finally see this car. I saw all the posts about it on the other forums but never was able to see since I don't have facebook.

Thank you for posting a pic of the interior!! I have an 84 H/O with the vinyl interior and I haven't been able to see good pics online with a 83 or 84 H/O with the vinyl maple, so I'm guessing there aren't many with interiors in good condition.

There aren't many of these cars ,,83 or 84 that were made with the vinyl interior..who knows how many are left...
that's actually a kind of crappy pic of the seats...It was taken by the guy i bought it from...not good light or quality..The back seat doesn't look like it was ever used.
I've been treating the vinyl and the rest of the interior every weekend...It's still soaking it right in..
It looks much better now. I will take some better pics over the weekend in good light and post them and send them to you..Anything in peticular you want to see ?

No matter what was said on the other forums and facebook,,,i don't care..It's still a real Hurst and it's mine !!! It will return to it's factory glory ,,will remain 99% original,,and will be around for a long time.

Erik, I wouldn't car what no one says about the car either. It looks good imo.

I would appreciate more pics of the interior. Close ups on the seats and door vinyl if you can. I believe my color is where it needs to be for my interior. I was looking to redo all seats but in thinking my drivers seat is the only one I need to do since it's ripped. What have you been conditioning the seats with?
