Talking 69 h/o

I was wondering the value of a 69 ho? it is a #3 driver. The owner is elderly(over65). I have spoke to him on serveral occations. he said he purchased it in the early 80's. he had it repainted 10yrs ago. I would love to give him a number as to not insult him.

Hard to say without knowing more about the car: like what engine HP? what tranny? what options? what general condition? This is the white/limegold 455 HO?

NADA suggests that something like a 3 (sight unseen) would be anywhere from 12,000.00 to 20,000.00

Offer what you think is fair. Can you post any pics and get any more info to us?

to 35,000 range if it a a real H/o with D heads and the right intake and wheels and dualgate with the ram air parts.

Yes, I know this is a delicate subject. NADA puts your valuation in the high end closer to a 2-, 2, or 2+

I would still want more info on the car. Also remember this car isn't being appraised for insurance, m455sx is simply looking for a good starting point to negotiate for a sale. The car may or may not need some work. It would be way better to actually see the car, listen to it and drive it to determine the best offer. If you were buying it, would you be prepared to say "sight unseen I'll give you 35,000"? Of course not, you've already attached conditions of what you'd need to see that $$$. And you're right about the provenance. Does it have the right VIN, engine, tranny etc? What about build sheet, mtce history, sales and registration docs etc?

You probably have a 69 HO judging from your name. 66ninetyeightls actually hit the nail right on the head with his comment, regardless of how much pride and attachment we have for our favorites. I understand your enthusiasm and appreciation of the 69 HO, but let's take it one step at a time?

Shane below put it in a pretty fair price range.. And as others have said, more info should be had on the car, hows the running condition, body condition, does it have all the correct H/O parts and most importantly, is it an actual H/O, what kind of documentation can the owner provide. If all that pans out you may have a good lead on a good car.

I, personally, would only make an offer, face to face, after thoroughly inspecting the car!
'New paint, 10 yrs ago', means nothing, as it could be flaking off the car!
Or rust bubbles 'popping out'!
In the early '80's he could have 'stole' the car - [I got a '69 442 coupe, 76k, buckets and air for $500 in '80] and not want much!

Over the years, I've found advertising descriptions and true condition are usually pretty far apart - but he should give you some idea what he wants!

ps; watch that "elderly" $hit - there are many on here 60+ - older means wiser, and most of us earned it!!!!!!

Not sure what your getting at above ? From the cars that have sold and are out there is what I put up for a price's . Yes I have a 69 H/O. He didnt say
he hasnt seen it or not I said I havent seen it . If the car is know like Jamsbo's or 1969Hurst, sickys or Erics or many others out there that one can track history on from post or show sitings then the number can be narrowed down . 1969hurst has seen alot of the cars out on the street and is a welth of info on them .

firefrost,
Not trying to get anyone excited here. m455sx says he has talked with the owner several times. I think it's implied that he's seen the car, but to what extent I'm not sure. This is one of those things that would be all round better if there was more information in his OP. My take on his request is what would be a good starting point to offer for a 69 HO that he thinks is in 3 driver condition. Usually you don't start high and work down. He can always start low and move as high as he's willing to pay.

You and 69HurstOlds (as owners and 69 afficienados? sp?) obviously know the market on these cars very well. But I think that the final purchase price will be based on what m455sx can afford, sweet talk, and whether the owner wants to sell it. Your price assessment take into account private sales? I did a web search and could only find a few 69HO's for sale. They were in showroom condition and asking around 90,000. Whether they actually got that much? Anyway this isn't a dissing match on 69 HO's. I love the car, the look, the performance, the provenance - heck EVERYTHING about that car. And I know there weren't a lot made by the Hurst Corporation. Read an article about that. I'm just a little skeptical that just because it's a limited edition that it's automatically worth big $$$, that's all

If you look back on my original post, it's based on NADA suggested values. Also I said
Offer what you think is fair. Can you post any pics and get any more info to us?
in an attempt to get more info. Note: Since Aug 8 there has been no updates from m455sx, so we may all be just jumping the gun in a discussion that may be moot.

I'd be more comfortable knowing it was a 3 by an appraisal standard than a possible guess.

Sorry guys for the delay on response! The car supposedly is numbers matching and everything correct down to the wheel which are the right ones. I have looked it over and it is in perfect shape for me. My #3 rating is a first place car at car shows,#2 is never driven and always trailered. #1 doesn't exist in oldsmobile world because they need to be driven and anybody with a #1 will never remove it from the garage. Although the guy has never opened the hood. He did say that the engine bay needs serious attention. I just wanted a general idea as to give the guy an offer so he can think im serious if ever decides to sell it. When i run accross him again i will take all sorts of photos to keep evrybody happy.

If Im selling Its worth what Im willing to sell it for. I have walked away from a few cars when I couldnt see the same value as the seller , Lets face it I dont think any 69 H/o or any other olds for that matter is worth 70, 80,90 grand. If the deal is to good then you better check the dots and cross the t's . If you need any info on the car that I can can maybe help with let me know. If you go to http://hurstolds.oldsgmail.com/69hoinfo.htm. it will give you lots of good info on the car. And Not to leave out http.wwwjeffmeister.com has some of the best photo's and realy good info too. Good Luck and keep us informed on the car .

For my 69 H/O, i paid 21k for it and it was basically nothing matching, i am in love with the car and havent regretted the price i paid on it. I bought this last year as well. Now if i was selling it you couldnt make an offer that i would accept . IDK if that helps at all but throwing in my 2 pennies. Like other people said it is what it is worth to you really and how much he wants for it
