1979 Hurst Olds

I just got a 1 owner 79 Hurst Olds. This car has not been tampered with by anymeans and came tach delete. There is no wire at the distributor and has a plate in place of the tach. This is leaving me a bit confused because I thought all 79 H/Os came with a tach.

Many Chevy & Pontiac A/G cars had what appeared to be full gauges that weren't & had idiot lights in their place & filler plates & such ...

But I've never ever seen a 78-88 A/G Olds with such a thing.

Please post a pic ... this I have to see.

What is the VIN # on the car? Let's make sure it's a real HO first.

Yes, the VIN says it's a 79 HO but the HO was built on a Calais package and that included a tach. See if you can post a photo of what you have.

To post a photo, save the picture to your computer and when you are typing your post, scroll down to where it says "manage attachments". Click on it and it will allow you to browse for the photo so you can attach it. Once you attach the photo(s), click the upload button and give it a few minutes to load the pictures. When it's done, the file names will appear. Close out that window and your picture(s) should show if you click on the Preview Post tab. If it looks good, click submit reply. I went through that quickly so hopefully you can follow along and get them posted.

That's an odd duck.

I could see something like that in a diesel equipped Calais perhaps ...
(reaching here)

But that there just shouldn't be.

I'm not an expert on those years so I can't comment on the tach delete. If you don't have the original window sticker, you might be able to find the build sheet. Usually underneath either the front or back seat, over the head liner or sandwiched between the gas tank and trunk. That would give you a lot of info about the car and if everything is authentic.

Looks like a good solid car, what are your plans for it?

Looks like a real good start! Good luck on that bad boy! Hope you post pics as you restore it!
If there is no build sheet or way to tell if it came with a tach.....why not add it if it makes you happy? No one will know???

screws in the data tag seem odd to me. Should be rivets ? What does the title say ?

There is another member here who used to own a black 1979 HO that was also a tach delete car. Rare but not a 1 of 1. Enjoy your new car.
